Verizon FIOS TV with Cox Cable Internet

I'm here at home for the weekend trying to help my parents out. My parents fell in love with the Verizon FIOS TV option, but recently went back to Cox for internet service, claiming that the internet was not fast enough. They currently have the Cox box set up, and everything works fine with the exception of being able to see the Program Guide. Is there a way they can set it up to be able to see the TV Guide with out affecting their internet service.

Thanks in advance

Cox may have disconnected the router from the coax. The guide comes through the router.

If they used the cable that ran to the router for their modem, move the router to where the main splitter is for TV cables and connect the router into the splitter with coax.

Maybe you should tell them Fios has other speed tiers available to them if the tier they had wasn't fast enough.

I split the coaxial running to the modem of the COX router and now it is running to the Cox router and the Verizon router...is that correct¿

No.

You need the VZ coax to run from the ONT to a splitter and then to the Actiontec router and TVs.

You need the Cox coax to run to their cable modem.

You can not mix the cable signals. The FIOS-TV and Cox HSI frequencies overlap.
The Actiontec is not a cable modem and can not connect to the Cox cable.

No, Cox probably disconnected the cable that went to the router at the main Verizon splitter, and ran it to their cable modem for internet. You need to reconnect the Verizon router to that splitter feeding the TV cables. You could split the cable behind the TV, but there should be an empty connector on the splitter, and the router need not be in the room with the TV.

No luck. TV is working...still not getting anything from the program guide. The internet doesn't need to be fed to the VZW box, does it¿

Pull the plug on the STB. It should reload when you plug it back in.

Did that too. No luck. The Verizon people told my parents yesterday on the phone that the data feed comes through the ActionTec box and there is no way to get the data feed for the program guide if you don't have their internet service. I find that very hard to believe however it's not working. I think I may have exhausted all avenues

That's not true. They do provision a data connection over the coax for Guide, VOD, and widgets, even if all you have is TV. Call tech support 1-888-553-1555. Aim yourself down the phone tree toward tech support 3 or 4 steps, and say Agent.

Have you traced out the coax cables?
•Where does the coax from the ONT go?
•Where does the coax from Cox go when it enters the house?
•Do you have a "main" splitter where the coax cables enter the house?
•What is connected to that splitter?
•Where is the Actiontec with respect to the TVs?
•How many TVs do you have?
•Where is the Cox cable modem?
•Is the coax WAN light illuminated on the Actiontec?

I agree with JohnA See Profile's post that Cox disconnected the coax wiring to the Actiontec router.

If you traced out the coax wiring as suggested, the Cox coax should enter the house, and connect to the existing coax running to the room where the Cox cable modem is using a barrel connector. Cox should NOT be connecting to your main splitter. The VZ coax should enter the house from the ONT, connect to your main splitter, with runs from the main splitter to your TV(s) and the Actiontec.

Or you can:
•Move the Actiontec router to where the TV is.
•Connect a 1Ghz splitter to the cable coming from the wall.
•Connect the Actiontec to one tap on the splitter.
•Connect the STB to the other tap on the splitter.

My parents live in a condo. The ONT goes into a splitter outside (it's only connected to the line in) and goes into the garage. There's an audio/video hub in the garage where the line in goes into this hub and then the box has cables that go to the different ports in the condo. There are 4 TVs in the house.

I first set up the ActionTec to be split so that the line in to the house is split, and one out is to the ActionTec box and the other goes into the hub so that the other TVs hooked up get cable. I thought this would work but it did not.

The Cox cable modem is in the garage. The LAN light is illuminated, not the WAN light.

I then tried the bottom step and that did not work either.

The Cox cable modem is in the garage.
Assuming the Cox coax goes directly into the cable modem, that is not part of your problem.

You are not getting a MOCA signal from the ONT. Can you check the ONT to see if the MOCA light is on, or if you have any red lights on the ONT? If the WAN light is not illuminated on the router, you are not getting a MOCA (WAN) signal from the ONT to the router.

If the A/V hub contains a distribution amplifier, it will not pass the MOCA signals between the Actiontec and the STBs. You will need to bypass distribution amp and connect the coax to the TVs directly to a 1Ghz splitter that is connected directly to the ONT and the Actiontec.

Did your parents have guide data, VOD and widgets before they switched from FIOS internet to Cox HSI? If they did, it is possible that VZ disconnected all WAN provisioning and did not enable the FIOS-TV only WAN provisioning.

Good luck, hope you get it fixed. Report back with the result & if you still can not do it yourself, please call for a VZ tech. They will show up & get it working.

Just curious, what speed was Fios internet before & what is the Cox speed now. I find it hard to believe that Cox internet is faster than Fios, actually I am kinda shocked that they would switch back.

I had Cox in Falls Church & then Annandale, VA (condo too) and it was horrible speed & reliability. No joke, it would go down at least once a week (sometimes for hours) and during 'peak' hours in the evenings after work, it would slow to a crawl. Just my experience. YparentsMMV.
