zaldy Gizmo5 is the only service that you can directly forward Google to an ATA. The other way would to use a free DID from such services as IPKall or Sipgate One. I am looking to get the best sound quality and wanted to here what the forum members have experienced using different service providers or combinations of service providers. My guess is that Gizmo5 would probably be rated the highest because it is direct.
Thanks for explaining it to me.

Were you successful in forwarding GV to Sipgate? I have not been able to make it work.

I have been using GV with G5 for a few months now and it has worked surprisingly well (even though it is completely free).

I first tried the G5 client, but the people on the other end of the conversation always heard themselves echo back. Then I tried using the X-lite SIP client and everything seems to work much better now.

Sound quality has been good on most calls, but sub-par on a few. I am thinking about using future nine instead of gizmo. Does anyone have any experience with the sound quality of F9 compared to gizmo?

I just got GV two days ago and tried Gizmo. From my very limited testing with a headset using Gizmo, the sound quality from Gizmo is crappy...
When you were testing the call, what's the status of your CPU resources? Was there any other program(s) throttling the CPU resources?

... very echoey and when I talk, ...
Sounded like an acoustic echo. If this is the case, then you need to adjust the volume and/or micophone sensitivity.

it seems to break up the call coming in.
What is your Internet connection? What CoDec did you use?

I want to try with a regular phone connected to my PC/router but haven't figured out how to do that. So I'm a newbie for sure but just wanted to offer my limited experience.
You can try SIPGate (US base).

Were you using the G5 client or another softphone. I'm not sure what codec G5 uses as default on their client but its not G.711. Try something like NCH Express Talk and see if that sounds better.

I am wondering if you could forward GV to a PSTN number via SIPbroker and connect that way into SIP?

I'm wondering if anyone has figured out how to dialing a call directly from an ATA through Google Voice (I'm talking dialing, not having GV ring the number you're at and then the number you're calling, or dialing into your GV voicemail to make a call).

Of course that would amount to free domestic VOIP calling, and would crush services like Vonage. I'm thinking if GV was to allow it, there would be a charge.

A long time ago, Nitzan was kind enough to set up a line which allows me to forward my Google Voice incoming, via IPkall to my F9 VOIP account. The account has no monthly fee, and costs 1 cent a minute for outgoing calls only.

So far the GV -> IPKALL -> F9 has been trouble free (with one hicup once regarding incoming CID info caused by IPKall for a few days).

If you can persuade Nitzan to set you up, he can automatically enter 1 to answer your calls. It is as close to a free DID as I think GV will get.

I use IPKall and Voxalot to forward from Googlevoice to ATA. I use Voxalot as I use the same ATA for making outgoing calls (not free, not through google voice).

GV to Gizmo5 to Voxalot was not working as audio was being blocked.
I am not sure if the link for blog is allowed here, so not providing the link directly here. (whynotbyzero7.blogspot.com)

Is GV forwarded via sip to G5 then forwarded again to another voip provider working again? Last time I tried it, it rang once then dropped the call.

I have IPKall and G5 forwarding from GV to my SIP URI. Though I will allow IPKall to expire soon.

The G5 path is very clear and latency is well within expectations and usability. IPKall is not as clear and about double the latency of G5, but still usable.

Yes it would be nice if GV would accommodate SIP forwarding directly.

I don't know how my ATA measures latency, but it usually reports 30ms latency during a call. Have seen it as high as 80ms, though it's not something I look at often.

Maybe I am missing something here:
I forward GV to voipvoip.com and answer it through my ATA with a cordless phone and forward it within voipvoip.com to my cell phone when I am out.

Sorry, my issue is probably not the same issue as hoolahoous's. I cannot even connect to my DISA. It just keeps ringing and then goes to the Google Voice Voicemail.

I am facing the same issue as hoolahoous. My DISA works perfectly with a IpKall incoming number to my Asterisk server (Elastic 1.3-2) however the same DISA does not work if i forward the google voice number to my server through Gizmo.

The inbound route works if i forward the incoming call to an extension but not DISA.

Not sure if Google voice or Gizmo does not like the sip signalling for DISA. Not sure why would it be different than a normal call.

I'm trying out Sipgate which features free incoming US calls.
Point Google Voice to Sipgate and incoming calls are completely free. Use Google Voice's webpage to initiate a call and it's also free since GV calls into Sipgate.

The question is how reliable and what quality is Sipgate.

My post was not created to discuss the merits of Google Voice or its business model. As we all know the only thing that is certain is uncertainty. I would have never believed as a younger man that the United States economic world dominance would be clearly threatened in the 21st century and unfortunately it appears this occurring before my very eyes. Will Google Voice hook every new user on its service only to charge in for it the future? Who knows. Will cyber implants be developed to interface directly to our synaptic connections allowing human beings to communicate without an external hardware without speaking over vast distances. Probably someday in the future. Could the VoIP industry collapse due to corporate communications giants lobbying for new legislation or by changing their internet services billing structure. Yes but why worry because Google Voice is currently a free service.

To address your second question about the value of Google Voice ultimately has to be answered on an individual basis. For myself I do indeed find value with it features and quality of service for my particular application. The simple fact that Google Voice is free service at this time that offers free long distance broadens its appeal to the masses as not everyone has a cell phone or the money to spend on an unlimited long distance with their landline service provider. Some may find value that you can still have an incoming and outgoing voice service without paying for a landline. Others may find value in having the unified answering and voicemail capabilities that Google Voice offers for free. I would strongly suggest that you take a look up Google Voices website to see if any of its features will benefit you.

Good luck,
macman4hire

I'm watching this (and many other similar) threads already. What is the value in GV other than unpredictable future?
