Multiple Modems in One residence?

Hey guys- I currently have one modem set-up with a wireless connection throughout my 4BR apartment. However, the signal is extremely weak in the living room, since we have to go through two walls and a big room. I am thinking about buying another modem, and hooking it up in the living room, and hooking my PS3 right into the wall, so we don't have to deal with the wireless.

Anyone see any issues with this at all? Last time I called RCN, they told me I needed to set up a whole new account?!!?

TIA

If you get a 2nd modem, RCN will charge you twice, once for each modem. Your account includes 1 IP address to the internet. You plug a 2nd cable modem in and that requires another. RCN sees that and will charge you a seperate fee.
You can get a wireless repeater like this one. »www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WRE54G
Put it about half way in between your router and the PS3 and that should help with your wireless signal problems. It's available in any tech store for ~$100.

I have actually used that linksys product and would not recommend it with a PS3.. What type of router are you using now? Have you tried changing the channel that its on? I was having issues with poor reception in my apartment and changed to a dual band (2.4/5.0 Ghz) router and havent had any issues since. Its not the room that will give you issues its the walls that the signal has to penetrate. Also you might want to try moving the router around if your able to. Other tips are make sure that other sources of interference arent located near the router (cordless phones, microwaves, etc.)

Definitely try changing the channel as mentioned. Try ch 1 or 3. No one uses them since most think ch.10 is better and that's if they even change from the usually default ch.6;)
But if that doesn't help I'd recommend looking at power line lan adapters. I've found they work a bit better than adding a repeater for tough spots.
