Re: Those Who Rented A Car From Enterprise

They do not require you to check in until the date you told them you would return the car. I don't think Enterprise has GPS inside the works of the cars where you can't detect them, but they might. Anyway, what you're contemplating is a bad idea even in the likely case that they don't. Here's why.

When you rent the car, Enterprise almost always asks where you're going, and they enter that information on your rental form. If you are pulled over by the police and for some traffic infraction, and are outside the area you told Enterprise you were going, the police will see it on your contract (because your copy of the contract is, in effect, your registration). The police may treat you briefly, at least, as if the car was stolen, and Enterprise is likely to find out about it. You will then be in breach of your agreement with Enterprise. Your rental car contract will specify serious financial penalties for this, well in excess of 25 cents per mile. And if you've had an accident in Florida when you told them you were staying in New England, even if the accident wasn't your fault, they will eat you alive financially.

You want to find an unlimited mileage deal. Keep looking.

If you can't find one, New England rental car companies at airports often restrict driving to New England and New York state. If you can get to the mid-Atlantic states, you may be able to rent an unlimited mileage car to Florida and back.
