I say sell the gift certs on craigslist, pocket the cash, then rent something from like uhaul or ryder. They have small trucks that were meant to cross state lines.
No cruise control on UHaul, Ryder, Penske, et al. Keep that in mind.
Not to go off topic here but, the Penske cab-over truck that I rented several weeks back had cruise control (was surprised).
Mine didn't, however since it was limited to 75, it didnt matter, just had both feet resting on the pedal.

LoL, I thought he said he was going on vac to FL

I can just picture them driving a UHaul truck for 30 hours each way to go on a nice *relaxing* vacation. Gotta be soooo uncomfortable too.

Ya they do, Do you want to travel back from Florida on a spare? Are you going to pay to repair it?

What if the tire is ruined? Are you going to but a replacement for the car?
Your best bet is to pay to repair it. I had a flat in a rental once. When I took the car back they told me if they could patch it, it was OK. If not, I was on the hook for the cost of the tire.

Luckilly I was on company business so they would have paid, but I could almost bet they would charge an arm & leg for a truly busted tire.

Wanna bet? Read a CC Car rental collision coverage addendum... There are sever terms and conditions that must be met...

Also note some of the terms:

It does say any violation of the rental agreement.

Also, He would be paying with Gift Certificates/Gift Cards. For coverage you have to pay with your CC...

Say for example you choose to take your rented Ford Focus off-road, and you bust an axle on a rut the size of a Utah canyon. Or you're driving drunk and crack up the rental car in an accident that was otherwise not your fault, but the cops Breathalyze you, and you fail. You paid the $13 a day or whatever to take out the extra insurance from the car rental company. And you used a credit card, not gift certificates. You still pay for the damage. Both policies are void because breached your contract with the car rental company.

Similarly, you go beyond the area you are authorized to go, the risk is greater, and you broke your contract. You have an accident, you pay. (You can try filing a claim with your own auto insurance company, but just like the other two, they will do anything they can to get out of paying the claim. And you gave them an opening by breaching your contract. They are certainly not going to pay all the charges that the rental company will level at you for going out of the authorized area.)

Because cc have insurances which cover such stuff. To rent a car, cc is required.
Again, violate contract terms, void all coverage...
I would not be so sure, the insurance on cc is not based on car rental agreement.
Wanna bet? Read a CC Car rental collision coverage addendum... There are sever terms and conditions that must be met...

Also note some of the terms:

What is not covered?

* Any obligation you assume under any agreement (other than the deductible under your personal auto policy).
* Any violation of the auto rental agreement or this benefit.
* Injury of anyone or damage to anything inside or outside the rental vehicle.
* Loss or theft of personal belongings.
* Personal liability.
* Expenses assumed, waived, or paid by the rental agency or its insurer.
* Cost of any insurance or collision damage waiver offered by or purchased through the auto rental company.
* Depreciation of the rental vehicle caused by loss or damage including, but not limited to "diminished value."
* Expenses reimbursable by your insurer, employer, or employer’s insurance.
It does say any violation of the rental agreement.

enterprise is pretty good. thats who i use for all my rental needs. i wouldnt expect to get a unlimited mileage contract for 40 dollars a day when i would be driving that amount of mileage tho.
Why? All of the other car rental companies around here give unlimited mileage, all around the same price, assuming you choose the same class of car.

To the poster above...I do not want a moving truck, dont need that much space nor do I want to pay for the gas down there and back for such a big vehicle. A small passenger car is all I really need since it is two people and some baggage.

If its too expensive, Im sure there is something that can be found but being tied to one company may be too much trouble.

A case of penny wise, pound foolish.

I doubt that any CC coverage will cover an accident outside the terms of the lending contract.

If you want to risk it go ahead.... I know a guy that was paying $300 month for 10 years to pay for an accident he got into out of out authorized area....
I am going to call bs on that.
Why? He wrecked a brand new minivan... 30000 for the van, plus interest and the cost to get the van back and admin costs etc.....

If you are using your own insurance, how would that be? I could understand if you use their insurance and it is not covered.
Most Insurance co's won;t cover if you void a contract on a rental car....

I just don't recommend renting it "for New England only" and then drive it to Florida and back. The downside is too nasty if you get caught.
Oh i wouldnt do that. Worse came to worse, I would sell the $400 in certificates for like $350 and use the cash towards a different company.
Yup. That works.

And thumbs up to Trunk Monkey. That's how I would do it if I were a car rental company. Who needs hidden GPS trackers? People need immediate feedback to correct their behavior.

I was just wondering how Enterprise enforces these ridiculous rules.
By using a trunk monkey when you leave the areas allowed.
