This shows a lot of promise--the ability to show video in an HTML 5-enabled browser (Firefox 3.5 and Safari 4 so far) without Flash...and it kinda works on the iPhone!

Like, youtube video, not 'Flash Animation' type video.

| I doubt Flash will go away anytime soon just because people turn to it by default, even to do things you would never need Flash to do. It shows laziness on the part of developers, and apathy toward providing the best user experience. -- You're so vain... I bet you think this post is about you. | |

| I know it's early and beta or whatever, but that wasn't much better than flash. It ran choppy and pegged this Mac Mini's Core 2 Duo at 100% while playing the video.
I guess it's a start though. -- University of Southern California - Class of 2010. Fight On!

| on it's "youtube test" page it says "This is a version of Video For Everybody using a YouTube video for the Flash fallback, rather than a locally hosted version. This should provide compatibility for devices that do not have Flash 9 + H.264 playback capabilities. (e.g. Wii, PS3, PSP) "
I can attest this does NOT work on the PSP as I knew it wouldn't. Make a verison that does then talk.

| While people may hate Flash, it's the authoring tools, server software, and DRM capabilities that makes Flash attractive.
This will NEVER replace Flash because Ogg Vorbis and Theora have no capability for DRM and if a distributor were to write something, it's possible they'd have to re-release it under the myriad of Ogg Vorbis licenses in use, although it seems like the Ogg Vorbis folks would be unlikely to enforce it. That also means that you'd have to install a specific Ogg Vorbis player for each distributor, which would break the Firefox integration anyway.
