| [XPPro] Resuming from hibernation hangs for a minute or two
I've been using the hibernation feature on my Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop for a number of years now and it's worked flawlessly until relatively recently.
Lately upon resuming from hibernation, the machine will just kind of hang for a minute or two once the hibernation progress bar hits 100%. There's no activity from the machine at all during this time and then all the sudden windows just resumes as if nothing out of the ordinary happened.
I have not made any hardware or hardware driver changes in years so it shouldn't be a hardware or driver issue. I do have Norton Internet Security 2009 installed if that makes a difference.
Other than this the machine has been running fine with one exception. The other day the fans on the laptop went into high speed when the machine got hot and then never shut off. At the same time the CPU got stuck in low step state (800 Mhz and opposed to 1.86 GHz). A reboot fixed this and I haven't seen that again. When I ran the Dell diagnostic program all the tests on the processor and the fans passed so it looks like that was a one time glitch.
Any ideas why resuming gets stuck for so long? --

| Did you look at the Event Viewer? You can access this from Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer. Then browse the categories displayed in the left side pane (Application, Security, System, etc.) and look for lines with a yellow or red icon.
While the messages are rather cryptic at times, it will usually point to an application or service that tried to start but could not for some reason. That often causes a 30 second time out. If that service was required to start another service, that can cause additional timeouts. Once you know the offender, you can figure out what is happening. | | Morac

| There's nothing of interest in the Event Viewer logs.
I did notice that the "hibernation hang" only occurs if the machine has been hibernating for a certain amount of time. So for example, if it's been 12 hours it will hang, but if it's been 5 minutes it won't.
That makes me think it's some program on my machine, possibly Norton Internet Security 2009 since that's the only program I've upgraded recently. --
