Re: Firefox 3.5 Final Released

Hi gollumbird,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

The Norton Toolbar that comes with Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton 360 version 3 is currently incompatible with Firefox 3.5. However, Symantec is currently working on a hotfix to resolve this issue which will be released on July 15th.

Please visit the links below for further information.

Compatibility of Norton 360 with Firefox 3.5

Compatibility of Norton Internet Security 2009 with Firefox 3.5

Thank you,
Mike

The history thing is a very annoying part of FF 3.5 which I discovered was a major mistake in downloading - I lost all my cookie exceptions that were blocked. The thing you should do now is to save your bookmarks by going thru the organize part into a word processor and then put it on your startup page. By doing this, you can at least go to the bookmark and click on it that way. And using the properties key you can cut and paste new websites into your saved page.

You must be also annoyed with the stupid (IE type) garbage of asking you twice if you wish to do something. Like clear your cookies, etc.

I just logged in here at the secure log-in page for the first time with Firefox 3.5, and had to make an exception to allow dslreports.com.
Never happened to me.

3.5 tells me the certificate is no good and I should watch my butt, as no legitimate site would be pulling these shennanigans.

Never happened before.

I made the exception. (This makes DSLR an 'exceptional site' as far as Firefox 3.5 and I are concerned.)

justin See Profile or nil See Profile-- Is it me or the site certificate?

I don't think it's my laptop, I think it's Firefox itself. It happened after the upgrade. I'm on Windows XP SP3, I did my windows updates, I use CCleaner, and I have Avast for Anti-virus.

Maybe I need to change my settings in the Firefox options, what any advices on what to change in there far as cache or something like that?
try this, example as shown in attached

I've been getting this message that my memory is running too low, what can I do about that?
Add more physical memory.

And make sure that your page file is adequately sized.
How do I do that?
open "Control Panel", double click on "System Icon", click on "Advanced", click on "settings" under "Performance" tab, click on "Advanced", click on "Change" under "Virtual Memory" and you will see the Page File info and can make some adjustment there.
good luck

Then check for how much RAM you can put into your PC.
Sites like www.crucial.com have configuration tools where you can put your make/model of PC and it will tell you what type of memory you can install and how much you can add.
I don't think that's much of the problem because it only started since I've upgraded Firefox to 3.5.

First, do you know how much free space you have on your hard drive? Have you been cleaning your temporary files regularly? Your page file (an area of the HDD reserved for emergency use) is usually set by Windows automatically, but if there is inadequate drive free space, Windows will popup a warning of insufficient memory.

Second, go to My Computer, right click and go to properties.
under General tab, it should show how much RAM memory you have installed.
I have 448 MB of RAM, I do clear my temp files regualry and I have 12.0GB of free space.

Mozilla Slates First Firefox 3.5 Patch

From Computerworld
July 2, 2009 -
quote:
Plans to patch bugs this month that went unfixed in final version

Mozilla will patch the just-released Firefox 3.5 in the next few weeks to stamp out several bugs that went unfixed in the final version of the browser, the company said Tuesday.

Firefox 3.5.1, which Mozilla intends to deliver in mid-to-late July, will include fixes for at least three bugs and "topcrashes," the term the company uses to describe the frequently-reported crashes. Like many applications, Firefox asks users to report crashes by displaying a prompt after the browser goes down.

"[The] goal of this release should be a quick turnaround that fixes topcrashes and bugs we almost held ship for," Mozilla said in notes published after a weekly status meeting.

One of the topcrashes scheduled for a fix involves TraceMonkey, the new, faster JavaScript engine that debuted in Firefox 3.5. At least one of the bugs was fixed a week before Mozilla released the final code on Tuesday.

The quick patch is not unusual for Mozilla. The company did the same thing last year, when it issued Firefox 3.0.1 four weeks after shipping Firefox 3.0, 2008's update.

Users downloaded about 6.5 million copies of Firefox 3.5 in the browser's first 36 hours, according to Mozilla's real-time counter.

It's getting too hard to configure a browser to work the way you want!
Your opinion. I find configuring Fx and IE to be pretty cut and dry. IE w/ Avant or Maxthon shells give even more options.

As for lockign things down as you know that differs per user. I use my history and the Awesome Bar quite a bit and there are easy tweaks to the Awesome Bar to speed it up as well as options to search what you want.
