Re: 911 service controversy.

And I thought you only needed directions from the nearest Dunkin Donuts?

But seriously people, nobody but the people that were there know what really took place and why.

What does any of this have to do with VOIP?
1) If you want a BORING forum where they ONLY talk about REN, call progress tones, SIP, SPI, firmware updates, and so forth, then go to Voxilla.com.

2) In a recent post, you yourself said: "Do you know Jollibee? Have you eaten at Goldilocks? You can find such places in California! You can even buy Magnolia Ice Cream there." So what does that have to do with VoIP?

3) In point of fact, the questions of 911 calling in general, 911 and Voip, and using cellphones for 911, have ALL been topics of discussion in this forum.
Plus 1

Anyways not calling from a mobile phone because you don't know the address of the world famous entertainer in the world is the lamest excuse I've heard if its true. All he has to say is Neverland...address solved.

Re: 911 service controversy.

If you were to watch the CNN interview of Jackson's attorney yesterday, you would see that all the posts here speculating about the 911 call are way off base. Jackson's attorney spelled out the time line of events with a fair amount of detail.

I'm on ATT here in Cali, and called 911 to report a dumpster fire. I started telling the 911 operator my location and she said she already knew it.

I could understand a little old lady or whatever claiming a half hour search - but a doctor wouldn't. Besides, I saw somewhere else that the person on the phone with 911 WASN"T the doctor, but someone else in the house. The operator asked if the caller was doing the CPR and the person said no - the doctor was.

agreed. 30 minutes is the time they spent panicing, realizing that they were screwed.

Yep. Time matters.
If a POTS line and a cell phone were equally accessible, I'd probably use the POTS line, but if the POTS line were even a minute farther away, cell phone all the way.

And it could probably almost be guaranteed that if he got to the correct dispatch center all he had to tell them is that he was at Michael's house and I am sure they would know the location. At least enough to know what fire station and ambulance to dispatch. Plus you know the police know the address..
And somehow the doctor managed to get there--I mean even if he didn't remember the house number, he certainly knew the general vicinity...

Dr. Carlton Murray didn't use his cell phone to get help because he didn't know Jackson's address, the lawyer said.
Off topic, but .... correct me if I'm wrong, don't Verizon and Sprint handsets have 911 location enabled? Anyone know how accurate the location is?
I think even AT&T and T-Mobile networks support some sort of 911 geolocation (based on cell phone towers I think).

Correct me if I am wrong it wasn't the doctor who called 911 it was someone else. I heard the call the guy clearly said the doctor was doing CPR.

A moot point if the doctor has an iPhone (or another AT&T or T-Mobile handset).

If the good doctor didn't know Jackson's address, how did he drive there? Just knowing an approximate location when dialing from a cellphone I think would be enough. This wasn't some minor manner, but a major emergency.

I don't know if VOIP would have saved him, but I'm covered with enough extra ATA adapters in my house to probably save a herd of elephants.

If you were in the same situation - wouldn't you at least TRY your cellphone? doesn't make much sense.
