Fire Season officially arrives in Mendocino County

Please be careful out there, especially this Fourth of July

"It's officially fire seasonUkiah Daily Journal Staff
Updated: 06/29/2009 12:00:01 AM PDT

Fire season was made official last week when CalFire's Mendocino County headquarters announced that burn permits would be suspended until noted other wise.

At campgrounds or on private property, campfires will be allowed so long as the fire is maintained in a way that stops it from spreading to nearby grass or other vegetation.

So far this year, wildfires have been held to a few small blazes of about several acres or less. CalFire said Saturday there was a small grass fire between Perkins Street and Gobbi Street that afternoon in Ukiah.

The suspension of burn permits means that wood debris can no longer be burned, which according to CalFire, can lead to wildfires when a controlled burn escapes.

CalFire reminds county citizens that the hottest and driest months are ahead and that another dry season is likely, the agency that handles fire protection of unincorporated areas of the county stated.

No fire:

From CalFire's official proclamation.

-All residential and outdoor burning ends after midnight July 30.

-Exceptions can he granted by CalFire if the need to burn helps safety, health or welfare.

-Campfires at campgrounds or on private land can be permitted if measure are taken to prevent potential spread of fire"
