New HD Channels - Pixalation / Unavailable in New York

Out of the five new HD channels, I am only getting MTV HD and CMT HD. The other three, comedy central HD, VH1 HD, and Nick HD, either are coming in pixalated or I get a channel unavailable message on the screen. All five channels show up in the guide with logo and all.

I called in the problem and they said they are going to look into it and call me back (Yea Right...).

Anyone else having the same issue. If you are, I suggest calling it in.

Frank-
There's actually 6 new channels - but sounds like a VSO issue (CO near your home).

Same exact problem in CA since Tuesday. I called it in on Thursday. After resetting my box several times (and erasing my favorites and such) they told me a group was aware of the problem and working on it. They don't seem to be working very quickly though.

I kind of got the same thing, they will look into it. Is it the same channels I mentioned which are not working?

If they don't find an "area" issue, I'd have a tech check the specific QAM channels that are having an issue at the ONT and on your wiring. MTV & CMT share a QAM channel as well as Nick & Comedy Central and Spike & VH1 (2 HD per QAM). 99% of the service calls I've gone on with the same symptoms as yours have been bad coax. Good Luck!

Bad coax? All the other HD channels are fine? I didn't have any problems when they added all the .tv channels a while ago. When you say bad coax, are you talking about the fiber to the ONT or the coax runs from the ONT to my boxes?

I have an HD box and a MR-DVR. Both have the same problems with these channels.

Yup...could be bad coax (not fiber) or splitter for that matter. If a part of the pathway (coax, splitter, ends.....) is preventing the QAM channel(s) from reaching the STB at an acceptable level it could cause what you are experiencing. And yes, since all the QAM channels are on different frequencies, you could experience the problem on only a handful of channels.

If it does turn out to be a problem with your coax network, it's important that the technician takes reading for the effected QAM channels and not just a closeout test, which takes readings on a sampling of channels. If the specific channels are not tested, he will just be overlooking the problem.

I had the same problem with 690 and 752 being pixelated... I had the fios tech come out today, and they swapped out the ONT - that did the trick.. They look great now. I have a HD tivo with 2 cable cards. Signal strength was showing 40% on both channels, with all other channels at 100%. Now with the new ONT they are at 97%.

Why the hell would I need a new ONT every time they add new HD channels. It's crazy. Like I said, they added the .tv channels a few weeks ago and I get them fine.

What does everybody need a new ONT everytime new HD's are added?

Exact same problem here in Northern NJ. Called on Friday morning and they said it will be resolved within 24 hours. It's now been about 60 hours.

Yup, same channels. All I get out of the 6 is MTV HD and CMT HD.
I think we are on the same VHO, but I'm not sure. But it's weird, some people that are definitely on the same VHO as me, seem to not be having this problem. And Baff is from Calif, go figure.

What SJ is talking about is...

When new HD's are added - VZ is using frequencies that previously weren't in use...perhaps there is an issue with that band at your home, in the wiring, etc.

I've seen it happen.

So your telling me there is an odd chance everytime new channels are added, someone might need a tech visit and new ONT?

My HD box, which has a home run back to the ONT, also is expreiencing the problem.
