Cablevision has STARZ HD West!

how come Cablevision just recently added STARZ HD West and fios still does not have it when they agreed to carry all available channels from STARZ? it is the only premium movie channel offered in HD that fios does not carry. any idea when it is coming?

Is it really necessary for Verizon to carry it for "bragging rights". The channel is just a 3 hour time delay of the East feed, shows all the same movies.

As I've said before, I would prefer VZ become an expanded HD market for VOD as outlined here-»www.starz.com/schedule/ondemandlistings/sodh

Exactly, it's not like it's a totally different channel.

Let's remember FiOS had the extra HD Movie Channels of HBO, Cinemax, Showtime and The Move Channel for much longer then Cablevision.
I'll give them slack on not having Starz HD West.

While it is nice to get the West Coast feeds for the premium movie channels, all you get is the same programming, 3 hours delayed. Additionally, a decent number (currently 12, not including a 1-minute spot about HSM3) of the newer, currently running Starz offerings are available on Starz HD VOD. Then, you can watch it when you find it convenient.

Before they add essentially redundant HD channels, I'd rather see them add things like NASA or whatever Encore stuff (right now there's only the East Coast feed for the main one) may become available in HD.

Starz HD West

I disagree that this channel isn't necessary, it's very necessary, compared to what's offered for HBO/Cinemax/Showtime, Starz needs every possible channel added as well.

Especially now that they have their own series. It's much easier to DVR True Blood or Weeds from the HD West channel, once all of the broadcast network shows are over. Perhaps that's only relevant for eastern/central timezone people?

Of course Starz doesn't provide as many HD & West channels as HBO/Cinemax but what they do offer should be on FiOS. Also not sure why MoviePlex isn't on FiOS but not too concerned with SD channels...

Re: Cablevision has STARZ HD West!

I'd rather have any number of regular cable channels in HD than Starz West. Especially since Starz has such a minute movie library, you've probably seen whatever is on Starz 50 times already in the last week.

DTV and other MSO's carry the East and West feeds to artificially inflate their number of HD services. As was previously stated, the content is the same with a three hour time shift. Wouldn't you rather have another unique HD service instead?

Verizon carries all the west coast feeds of HBO & Cinemax and used those numbers to reach the 100 mark last year. Why leave one out?

It's not like they have bandwidth problems and have to choose one or the other. VZ should add STARZ West HD and add other HD cable channels as they reach agreements to carry them.

I don't have VOD capabilities with my third-party DVR, and I really enjoy having the ability to record a movie/event/show that is shifted out of primetime for my region. Usually the premium movie channels show the most popular stuff during the most viewed times, and I frequently have conflicts when trying to record them. I often just use the Pacific/West versions to record HD movies that start much later, and rarely bump against my daily favorites.

While this in not critical, as I can scan ahead and find the same movies playing in the morning sometime during the week, it's just convenient having another option.

True! I guess everyone uses 'fuzzy math'? But still tough to compare HBO and even Skinemax to Starz...

Don't you have 2 tuners though?

I do see your point, VZ should get as many HDs as possible.

Yes, but sometimes things get kinda crowded. I am in the habit of recording everything I watch, even if I only to give it a 20-30 minute head start. On longer sporting events or shows with many commercials, I look like an even bigger idiot than usual when the recording catches up to live TV and I'm pointing the remote in all kinds of weird angles trying to get the fast-forward to work before I realize it.

VZ does carry Starz West but only in the West VHO's so it's not an issue with a contract agreement but a decision to not carry both the East and West in the same market...

Cablevision does not carry 7 premium HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax HD channels that FiOS has: HBO Comedy W, HBO Latino W, HBO Zone W, Sho Extreme W, Action Max W, More Max W, and Thriller Max W.

I'd say FiOS customers have the upperhand in this. Plus the signal isn't downgraded like on Cablevision.

But, Cablevision has been adding a lot we don't have.
