1 edit | reply to dadkins It was actually cold last night, it got down to 42 here in Redwood Valley, today it only hit the mid 70's, nice We always get an onshore flow at night here inland, and when it's strong enough it stays around all day like it has lately. I guess being only 28 miles from the coast helps -- You've got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything. |

1 edit | reply to dadkins Did you camp out in Island Park at all? One my favorite spots anywhere is Buffalo Campground by the Buffalo River, my favorite river to fish. My family's been going up to Island Park for over 100 years now, you just can't beat it for beauty and fishing. |

| reply to dadkins Went through there, great area, 2 lodges and public access down every side road. Definitely a sleeper area that most on their way to Yellowstone pass through.
The Sawtooth range and Island Park are under represented on a national scale, but that is a good thing, no crowds.
The picture is a free NFS camp north of the Tetons on the upper Snake river wilderness. Nothing like you, a couple other campers, bears and wildlife, and no cell phones for interruptions. |

2 edits | Yes it is, and that's a good thing like you say. Lassen Volcanic National Park here in CA is another, very few visitors compared to other parks.
We've spent many a good summer in Island Park, at Mack's Inn Campground and Buffalo River Campground, and through Yellowstone. Island Park ROCKS, what can I say! Speaking of that, did you go by Quake Lake? |

1 edit | reply to dadkins West Yellowstone is still a pretty down to earth town, unlike Jackson. They have a store there where you can get souveniers for a dollar or less, all of us kids got a ton there lol Jackson is just too overpriced and "elite", it didn't used to be that way though, and some would turn West Yellowstone and Island Park into that if they had their way. -- You've got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything. |

At the same time 90 degrees and low humidity here 40 miles inland. It sounds like it was quite a bit hotter there than Redwood Valley, it only hit the mid 70's here today and it's 52 right now at 1 AM. It's actually been cold (low to mid 40's) at night here for the past week or so, they've even hit the upper 30's in Laytonville. -- You've got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything. |

2 edits | reply to dadkins I am glad it's going to start cooling down a bit starting tomorrow, I am SICK of this heat! It'll still be warm, but more normal temps and not this upper 90's to low 100's junk. It cools off into the low 50's at night, that's one thing I like about this area, unlike the Central Valley where it stays warm all night. I guess for really cool weather I should head over to our coast, low 60's there during the day -- You've got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything. |
