arris tm502g & linksys wrt54gs!! GRRR

ok im new at this...ive looked through these post and am deeply confused....i have a arris tm502g (modem, i think) and a linksys wrt54gs (router, right?)
ok a few problems

1. i do everything the set up thing tells me to do and i get no connection to the router from my modem...or which ever way it goes.

2. i dont know what i am doing and i just want to play online with my ps3(so i am blinded with rage)

3. the "helpfull" people at the cable company wont help me...

does is matter if it is a (linksys wrt54g or linksys wrt54gs?)
anything would help

Do you have connectivity to the internet through the router if you are hardwired (ethernet)?

Assuming your modem is working...you ran the CD that came with your router, and you have it wired correctly...

*unplug the modem and the router.

*plug in the modem. Wait for all the lights to come back on

*plug the router in

*restart your computer

*see if you can get online

Since the Arris modem has a built-in battery, unplugging it from the wall will not reset it. You need to use the reset button on the modem.
