Re: New Comcast.net Web

Have you refreshed your browser? If I read my messages in SZ and refresh my browser the count goes to zero.

Oh good point!

It must not be a forced refresh automatically. I do believe a manual browser refresh fixes it. I'll have to test with a few different browsers.

Original issue seemed to be that if Outlook pulled my e-mails off the server, logging into comcast.net I would still see a very high e-mail count.

Again, I'll have to experiment with it a little more.

Ok I opened Chrome and logged into comcast.net and it said I had 3 e-mails. This was the first site gone to through google chrome, so I don't see it being a refresh issue.

So I click on it, and it says I have 3 messages, 1 new. Go into my mailbox and there's only 1 message in there total.

I'm thinking because Outlook downloaded messages earlier, but the server doesn't notify the counter on the smart zone front page or the comcast.net front page.

Once I went into smart zone and logged out, the e-mail counter returned to 1, which was correct.

You are correct in that the Comcast server did not know that you popped your e-mail to Outlook.

The old page was easy enough to navigate and looked modern. WHY DON'T THEY WORK ON CUSTOMER SERVICE INSTEAD? Ugh, Comcast's customer service is a pile of steamy, smelly, runny You Know What. Even if the technicians can't fix anything, at least they don't smell like I would think that they do.

It has nothing to do with a refresh. The count was wrong even after a complete reformat of the hard disk. I Download using Windows Live Mail and don't leave a copy on the server and all my browsers refresh on exit. I'm going to stop using Live Mail for a few days and see if that has any effect and will post back here.

I don't get what this has to do with the subject. Slow at updating? Here in Seattle I can choose a 50/10 if I wanted to.

What does email through a client have to do with the new webpage?

Am I missing something here?

Because the *NEW* webpage still includes the same old broken e-mail counter as the old one. Now it's just in the upper right with different graphics. But the count is still wrong.

If your going to update something, why not fix a few bugs in the process, rather then letting them hang out there.

But Larry was describing using Windows Live to download his email.
A new webpage would not affect email though a third party email client... would it?

My counter seems to still be working.

Perhaps there is a bug elsewhere that should be looked into - like POP-ing the email or maybe the email server needs to be kicked/hit with a brick.

Could be. I just logged in and it said 3 new, 1 unread. Go to my inbox and there's only 1 message there. Where's the 3 new?

Well Outlook 2007 at home must of downloaded it. But why doesn't the new Comcast.net front page or Smartzone actually pop into the e-mail server and grab a count, so it knows what to actually display?

Now once I go in to my inbox and back out back to the Comcast.net home page, the new "My Comcast" signon e-mail count is corrected.

This "My Comcast" signon is pretty nice, and it seems to allow my browser to remember my username and password and give me one click access to my mail, or browse the community forums. The counter is just not "POP'ing" into the mail server to pull the accurate count. I'm not sure where the number comes from.

In the lower right hand portion of your SZ window, there is a link "Tell Us What You Think" which goes here: »www.comcastsupport.com/forms/net···back.asp. We read all of those, of course.

Also keep in mind that some of the email engineers read BBR forums directly, as well as our Comcast Email forums. We weigh all of that feedback combined when developing our feature release and bug fix schedule. Something to keep in mind -- we certainly try to keep tabs on what our users would like.

We're currently rolling out a maintenance drop that fixes some bugs and includes an enhancement (when you collapse ads, they stay collapsed instead of popping back out regularly). We're roughly half way through with the roll-out, so some users are on the new code base, others are not (some features will not roll-out until 100% of users are on the new code base). This will be complete on approximately 7/10/09.

If you have been on comcast any amount of time you would realize the so called new page is the same layoff they had about 3 years ago. It's nothing new.

- works well in Firefox, but not in IE8

This doesn't work. Try to search for a movie in Fancast. Type in "Back" to search for as an example. You'll get a bunch of results but you can't scroll down past the first page or go directly to any other letter. This makes search, my most important feature, unusable.

I forgot to answer this specific bug question. For a variety of reasons, differentiating between new and unread is proving challenging in certain use cases. So in our next major release (likely mid to late Sept) that counter will be simplified to just show the number of unread messages. This will be simpler and more reliable.
