Not that CCD is HORRID, but unarguably CMOS is better in many more extreme situation, glad Pentax finally went there with the 20D..
It's not "unarguable". What are the extreme situations you refer to?
Dynamic range of CMOS tends to be better, more resistant to streaking/blloming (klike shooting a sun still present sunset), and such distortions, also generally much less noise in low light/high ISO and time exposure situation.

Again the more extreme situations.

And also as I said before the 10D CCD is one of the best I have experienced, but I can see a decided difference, especially in the extreme situations with the 20D CMOS.beyond just res dif..

And I will admit to th Canon community even my 1st Gen Rebel and only 6mp but CMOS did do better than my P 10D sometimes, but couldn't (even the 10 hacked firmware) beging to come close to its feature set for not much more cost which more than made up....and what swung it even though a CCD (and for thier limitation a very good one) sensor.

But with the 20D no CMOS envy anymore.

Also glad had the 10D because at its introduction you could still find bargain used Pentax lenses then, but no more really, any still out there much nearer current equiv retail.. (and still do have 10D as second or backup body)

What's mostly better with CMOS is price, overall camera complexity, and readout speed (without which we would not have video in dSLRs or high framerate @ 12+MP, I think).

Just to throw one more wrench into the mix »lowest price yet for Pentax K20D.

OOPS soory just saw the last post quoted not the one before .... indeed you did.

And by the way having had other CCD cameras before and the 10D, the damn finest performance CCD I ever experienced.

But IF one can manage the price difference between the 200D and the 20D (even putting off lenses purchase for a while) I would definately go for the 20D.

That does look like a really good deal!

The K2000 isn't quite as full-featured as the K10D, but it has just about the same sensor.
No it doesn't it is the olld CCD 10mp sensore from the 10D.... Only the 20D is CMOS. (And why Canon tribe has now lost their big arument/talking point) Definately an improvement from the 100D (6MP?) but still CCD.

Huh? I never mentioned the K20D or CMOS. I was saying that the K2000 has pretty much the same sensor as the K10D.

I got the cookie msg too after reading your post. I then closed the link & hit it again & it worked.
Oh, the cookie page has a link that says something about "Click here to continue", so I was able to reach the advertisement just fine. I just thought the typo in the title bar was amusing.

Amusing note: When I click on that costco link, I am taken to a page about enabling cookies. The title of the page has an amusing typo: "Costco Cookie Requirenents"

KEH currently has a used 18-55 DA-AL II for 105 (EX+). The reviews indicate the II lens is an upgrade from the original (non II) lens.

The have a non II for 72 (also EX+)

For convenience

KEH is listed in the FAQ as a reputable online source. My only experience with them was positive.

If you want the kit lens, you can pick up a quality used one for $50, maybe $120 tops for a new one. Another cheap one used would be the Sigma 28-105 f/2.8-4 for maybe $75. $280 or so will get you the Pentax 16-45 f/4. You could probably also pick up the kit 18-55 and 50-200 for less than $300 total.

Thoughts??

Pentax K10D (Refurbished Body)

Pentax 18-55mm lens with hood
»www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp···90915470

That would put me right in my price range.
I would say go for the K10D at that price, but as for the kit 18-55mm lens, $200 is a rip-off price.

If you really want that lens, you shouldn't pay more than $100 for it.

However, if you are willing to plunk down $200 for a lens, there are likely other better choices.

Add buydig.com to your list. Gbcue recommended them to me when I bought the Rebel. Didn't get a single "you need to buy the ______" call and my wife recently purchased my 50mm from them with no complaints.

But again ABES did do it (live up to the sale)and many others have spoken well of them as well as B&H I have had good results from new and used, and Amazon,.

though Amazon doesn't really surprise me just being a straight forward discount retail outlet... they wouldn't put up with the BS either.

bUt for instance in NYC B&H is one of the few that won't pull that BS if you won't buy overpriced batts and accs as well. (Let alone likely gray market and one of those accs is actually a 3rd party questionable warranty.... bringing it up tgo US cost, with an actual US manufacture warranty.

Yeah, I don't order from those types of places after I had my first bad experience with them in 2002. For new stuff it's pretty much Amazon or B&H or Adorama only.

And BTW... BOTHH are from my 10D.... haven't even touched the 20D OEM batt.

And By the way Kudos to Abes Of Maine.... when I ordered my 20D.... sure they tried to sell me stuff/everything, but when I said I have ALL that just replacing a 10D body.... need NOTHING.... they aquiesed.... and sold it... where as many other places it would have been suddenly unavailable.

And honestly I had missed Ed MCMahon had passed away and though I never watch it noticed TVG channel had a retrospective, but all 3 times I tried to record it it was another MIchael Jackson pice of BS
