As in, Atheros has promised open source drivers, and some have already been released. DD-WRT does support some Atheros chipsets (i.e. Accton's La Fonera line-up), though I can't think of a Linksys device that has used Atheros before. Possilble reason for this announcment is that they may be planning on offering a neutered version (vxworks, less mem) much as they did with the WRT54G.
