Neighbor's Signal

I have a neighbor who has hughesnet. It's an old couple that got it for their granddaughter to use when she visits. I would definitely not use it during the daytime, as that isn't cool at all, but possibly during the FAP free "download period" (don't judge me). Which is still kind of sketchy when hughesnet users themselves aren't fully sure when this period starts and ends. I've heard central time: 2am to 5am, 3 to 7 and 2 to 6. Perhaps 3 to 5 would be a safe bet?

Is there any way I could check their bandwidth usage without having a product id code to log in with? Any way I could find out which plan/modem they're using?

I've tested it out and the speed is really good. I'll get my own connection eventually, but right now, I can't afford the $400 setup fee. And all I want to do is download one TV show a week.

As far as I know, there is no way to check someone's usage because, gee, it's NOT YOUR ACCOUNT!

You could break into their house or leer through the window to see what modem they have but that will not tell you what service plan they are on because, gee, it's NOT YOUR PLAN!

STEALING INTERNET ACCESS FROM A NEIGHBOR IS WRONG!

STEALING INTERNET ACCESS FROM OLD PEOPLE IS OUTRAGEOUS!

Why don't you step up and ASK them if they are willing to let you use their service during times when they are not?

And offer them some cash, mow their lawn or something for the pleasure of using it. Don't be a leech.

Hmmm. I like this leering through the window idea...

I have an even better idea...

Steal their HughesNet invoice out of their mailbox which will show the service plan and thus you will know their daily usage limit.

As soon as you do that, we can throw your sorry ass in jail for committing a felony.

Well this has got a little out of hand. I am sure Sea Green will be along shortly to dispense with it all.

But as you are probably gonna steal the stuff anyway.

There is nothing (sketchy) about the download time. It is clearly posted on several places on the Hughes site.

It does require that you understand the world time system (4th grade stuff) and that you be able to add and subtract. (1st grade when I went to school)

The answer to your other questions is Yes. But you would need to be able to understand bit rates and the such.

Being as it is a part time used system. I bet it is a home plan 200 MB per 24 hours.

So if you borrow it during the non free time to download video you are probably going to put them into FAP.

Oh and I probably fall into the OLD category as I am entitled to Social Security and Medicare. But there is little chance you could steal my stuff.

Have a good day.

Yeah, fuck it. It was a bad idea. It was just so tempting, being on dialup for so long.

I think I can get centennial wireless anyway. Very slow, but it will do.

And Joe, cut down on the caffeine, man.

Well see if you lived close enough to me i might let you do it, as long as it was indeed in the free time.

But as I planned it no one lives within rifle range of me. And you need a truck to get here.
