| Atlantic Tele-Network for certain Alltel customers
I just received notification from Alltel that "Atlantic Tele-Network has entered into an agreement to become your wireless service provider".
I understand that Verizon did not buy out Alltel totally. Therefore,I suppose this means that I (my tele number)was one of the ones left out and that I will get switched to this Atlantic Tele-Network.
Reading the FAQs on the Alltel site '»https://alltel2.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/all···qid=9113' I am now concerned with what may transpire when the hand-off takes place. Is there anyone in this forum in the same boat as I, or does anyone have any additional info they can share? |

OP, I am in the same boat. Going to the ATN website doesn't help much and is quite discouraging to say the least. |

1 edit | reply to technoblab Last time I went to Alltel I asked them about this. They said that ATN was some type of highly reputable company that is very powerful overseas but has not ventured into American land yet, although they are headquartered in Salem, Massachusetts. He said that he's heard of them by the Caribbeans. He actually had high hopes of them and was very glad Verizon/AT&T didn't take our area (I supposed because of their so called "evil" tactics). He also believed that after the contract was up there will still be no cap. YAY. Lastly, he said if any re-branding is done, since Verizon bought the Alltel name itself, it will be done during Christmas time or some time next year.
These are not verified facts but I hope this can help you develop a general opinion of ATN. |

| reply to technoblab I've learned that they don't have any actual presence in the retail sector in the US, that they provide roaming towers, etc.
Some of the local alltel reps seem to encouraged that they think this new company will retain a lot of the same things we have right now, rather than try and build from scratch a retail plan.
That may change over time, as they get their foot in the door as to what they want to provide us as customers.... hopefully for the better. |

| reply to technoblab I heard directly from an Alltel representative that in early October that ATN would be working on putting "hidden" data caps, for stuff like there unlimited data plans.. Sounds like another verizon strategy. I'm switching to verizon when my contract goes up later this month. |

| reply to technoblab I am still trying to figure out what ATN's game is. After looking over their company it appears they are a reseller. I have a feeling they are going to "rent" the service to small town telephone providers to offer to their customers. (that is what they did with CC Communications). The following is a link to CC Communications so you can get an idea of what (I think) will be happening when they sell to your local companies »www.cccomm.info/index.php?ctr=38.
I don't know for a fact that this is what they are going to do. But I am feeling very uneasy right now. As for our local area, the only choices I have are Alltel and Verizon. Once my market is divested, I won't have a choice other than verizon or a mom-and-pop operation. since I am still under contract, even if I switch to verizon I am stuck with a $200 termination fee. |

| reply to hubbabubba Reps do not know anything and should not have given you this information. Once you are under a contract your plan has to be grand fathered in. ATN is a wonderful compnay and they have updated there website. www.atni.com. Atni is a power overseas company and has roaming agreements with the major carriers, without ATN then you would having roaming charges, ATN has agreements to prevent you to get roaming charges. |
