The morning news link has another link (»help.benm.at/help.php) which installs tethering & MMS right from the phones Safari browser. After a reboot, it works.....

I've heard whether they work or not is hit and miss. I haven't tried them myself but may play with it later today. My girl would LOVE to have MMS again.

I'm sure you're right, and I need to clarify that I had already installed the IPCC file. I was then able to get and add the MMS settings from the help.benm.at site, which enabled MMS.
Since ATT doesn't plan on charging extra for MMS, it's less likely they will come down hard on it's 'unofficial' use. But they just might consider the tethering a theft of service. A ridiculous thought, but this is ATT.

I installed it and played with it for a few hours....Then I noticed that it kills your visual voicemail NotificationYou people might want to see if it effects your voicemail.. |

In the iphone's Settings->General->Network->Cellular Data Network, change the Visual Voicemail APN from wap.cingular to: acds.voicemail
This will fix the voicemail issue.

w00t! No extra config and I was able to connect, browse, and send email on a colleague's MacBook while on the Capitol Corridoor Amtrak btwn Sacramento and the Bay Area... 760kbps down and 125kbps up - all while moving at 70mph!

As a side note, believe it or not, I'd never actually taken Amtrak until today. I rode my bike 6 miles from the Oakland hills to the BKY station, rode around in Davis a bit, and then once arrived back at Berkeley, rode the 6 miles back home (which included 1 very steep 1.5 mile long hill).
Anyway, I'm a bit terrified of what AT&T is going to pull, given how widespread this tethering is at the current point in time.
I got this message on my account page:
U1536: Due to the recent change to your data feature, we are unable to display usage information until after your next billing cycle which begins on 07/01/2009. Now, I don't think I've actually ever looked at that data tab before, but this message was odd. I wonder if it was linked to the downgrade from the 1500 txt plan to the 200 txt plan that I requested yesterday?

| AT&T are completely disgusting. As a reward for consolidating my mobile and landline bills, I get to pay 2 mobile months in arrears (because that's how long it takes them to implement this!) and one month ahead (because that's how they bill the mobile when you consolidate). So I pay 3 mobile months total this month, plus the landline bill. Friggin' pirates.
