Most decent VOIP services are not much cheaper, and when you include the higher cost of 2 play vs. 3 play it makes little sense to go the VOIP route

You have to compare the $24 Verizon cost to what you can get with VOIP and don't forget the cost if you go down to double play ( $27 in discounts vs $54 I believe it shows on the Verizon website)

| yea dude
especially if you have fios with tv and internet i dont think it makes sense not to get the regular phone service.
The fiber lines to the house feed the phone, tv, and internet service. In fact they took out the old copper lines (perhaps they did that so that it would force future inhabitants to stick with fiber?)

| There is no question that the Verizon POTS line makes good economic sense with a FIOS bundle, unless the user requires the additional features that VOIP offers that POTS doesn't. If and when Verizon offers FIOS Digital Voice, then the third party VOIP may no longer be necessary, but until then, it is.
As others have posted herein, almost any VOIP will work well with FIOS. I had Verizon VoiceWIng until it ceased operation so I switched to Vonage. Both were excellent with my 20/5 service. I have heard nothing good about Magicjack but haven't used it myself so I can't speak from experience about that one or any of the others.

| One good VoIP option: Ooma
Purchase the hardware for $213 shipped from Amazon, and you don't pay any more monthly fees, no taxes, no USF, etc.
I've placed the Ooma box in the wiring closet with my 20/5 ONT, and wired it's output into my home phone wiring. It's worked perfectly, good quality voice, no hassles, and it behaves just like a POTS line as far as I can tell. I ported my old landline # ($40 or included if you pay for Premiere service for a year) and no one has even noticed that it's VoIP.
I'm happy to answer any Ooma questions, I'm a big fan now, and it's a perfect fit with my FiOS Flex TV/Internet bundle.

You will just pay the $200-$250 for the equipment up front!
I recommend everyone checking into Ooma!

| I have had packet 8 sin sunrocket went down a year or two ago. It has worked excellent especialy when it cost you $24.95 a month or $18 on an annual plan. I have been trying Voipo and it has sounded excellent also. I am in the process of having my number ported as I was so impressed I signed up for the annual plan for $99 a year. Voipo.com I have magicjack and love it. Workes great just need to have the computer on if you want to recieve or make calls. I just use it as an extra line in my garage. | |

Q. Will I be able to use other registration media to access OneSuite's VoIP platform?
A. OneSuite will only provide support to OneSuite labeled softphone and OneSuite labeled equipments.
So there's no way I can ask for support unless I use Onesuite softphone right? Also if I don't make any outside calls, I'll just pay $2.99 a month? No extras?

Like what the support page says...Onesuite will only provide support to Onesuite softphone or labeled equipments if theres any. I think Onesuite is compatible with most softphones out there and also with ATA devices. Just don't expect some help though from Onesuite support.

Onesuite works with any standard Voip adapter or softphone. They can't support your equipment because they didn't make it, but all I had to do was plug in my user name and password into my Linksys SPA-2102 and leave the settings on default. I never even installed their Softphone app. Yes it is $2.99 for unlimited incoming calls (they charge no taxes or fees). I just give them $10 through paypal every few months and that's it. One thing I forgot to point out which is very important: They don't provide 911 service. You should definitely have a cell phone or some other method to contact 911 for an emergency! Thanks for the clarification. I guess for $2.99 I can try Onesutie services without too much risk...well a $2.99 can buy me a nice mini subway sandwich.

| Re: VOIP and FIOS Been using VONAGE since I got the FiOS. about $30 less per line per month. Once I junked the Actiontek router and put the VONAGE box as the router, which then feeds the house network switch thus the Actiontek only talks to the STBs. Excellent service, and their box solves the QoS problem. Highly recommended. -- Doc | |

1 edit | Re: VOIP and FIOS Ok, so you have the vonage router connected to the actiontec router?
- yea right now we only have one line so we don't need VOIP service, we're paying some 20 bucks a month for phone service.
We are currently getting a 3 for 2 bundle discount. total price 132 dollars / month includes 2 extra international channels (10 bucks each) + DVR (15 some dollars) 20/5 internet + some features on the main phone line.
if we take out the phone we wouldn't be getting that discount.

verizon fios, at least here, comes bundled with phone service. Additional 15 bucks for 500 minutes/month of international calling to areas outside north america

| Reasons why some prefer VOIP? I'll take a stab: -save a lot of $ -similar quality of service (especially with a UPS) -more features (e.g., ability to make two calls simultaneously on two separate phones using one phone number) -can bring your device when you travel to make calls with ethernet access -no need to ever port your VOIP number when you move (if you stay with that VOIP provider) -ability to add an additional phone number in different area codes (although this might not be a huge benefit with services like google voice)
I've had VOIP for about 6 yrs - it was only a bother when I had sunrocket and they went out of business two years ago. I currently pay $20/mo with vonage, but I am in the process of switching to ooma ($200 up front, no additional costs).

If you pay a year up front it is $169.
FiOS internet works great & I make & receive calls, what else can I ask for.

| Another alternative for you is magicjack. I've had for about a year. Couple of minor issues but overall, works, crystal clear, has vm, callerid and LD to Canada/Mexico is included. Also works with my fax machine.
$20/year. No taxes. All you need is a usb port.
I dropped my phone and added my verizon cell phone which they took. No problem.
Also I was with Sprint for 8 years. Switched to Verizon first of last year. MUCH better coverage.
Just an idea for you. Sure has worked for me.
