| Am I too old for this??!! hi everyone...1st post in the gamers forum...
so, lets see...i'm 45, the last game that you could say i was hooked on was duke nukem...then my son got me into playing modern warfare...
man! that game is addicting!!. but it's also frustrating as hell!! as an example, i just got done playing the crossfire map, i led both teams with 29 kills/ 10 deaths...but then i'll play another map, or even the same map later, and i'll go 10/25...i probably average in the mid to high teens in both categories...
what i want to know is the experiences from the older (not old ) crowd...i tell my son that as you get older your 'twitch' reflexes start to diminish...you know, the ability to drop the red-dot sight right on the enemy.
so lets hear it...can you keep up with the younger kids at these games? how old are you? what's your averages...kilss/deaths?
i'm at level 42 on my 3rd prestige...

Yes make fun of us old folks. Just remember if it wasn't for us 40+ guys spending billions of quarters on Space Invaders, Pac-Man and Donkey Kong and begging our parents to spend $200 on Atari 2600s and ColecoVisions there wouldn't be a videogame industry today.

No they put out absolute crap and expected us to pay $30 for it. Atari thought because ET made $400 million at the box office people would buy a game with ET on the box even if it sucked ass. They literally only took 5 weeks to make that game and it showed. That's just one example.

That's just one example. Good call, except I was one of the sheep who bought into that intense E.T. game hype and was out $40 (at the time I think that was the game cost?). I just never saw what was so great about NES. At the time that came out, PC gaming was in it's golden age. I didn't jump back into consoles (from the Atari) until the Genesis came out.

| Re: Am I too old for this??!! Actually, Colecovision came out and dominated the market with all the arcade ports. Then Coleco got stupid, they tried to enter the computer market and the Cabbage Patch Kid were the only thing to keep them afloat till they went out of business. By far a better system then anything else in the mid 80s. Then NES came and hooked all the younger gamers with Mario and stole the market after the crash.
I had a Commodore 128d then a PC and got back into consoles with a PS original the Xbox, 360 and Wii. I like mostly racing and puzzle/adventure games. I used to play a lot of Halo when it was new and spent days playing MotoGP on live right after launch.
Being 44 I find myself not keeping up with the younger ones like my 14 YO son. I just have to play against my wife or daughter, then I can almost always win.

| No, you're not too old, especially if you're having fun. I'm almost 37 and had a blast playing Modern Warfare. Never got into the online stuff playing with others but played through the single player a few times before giving it to my brother and I think he likes it even more than I did. Defend the Abrams Tank had me pulling out my hair. That was the toughest part of the game for me but I loved every second of it.
Ghostbusters might be a game that appeals to some of the older crowd and should be out this coming Tuesday. I'm looking forward to playing that one. -- "...eat Spam from the can, watch late night C-Span, and rock out to old school Duran Duran..."

And as an adult I got in: 1992 Super NES 1996 Nintendo 64 2002 GameCube 2006 Wii

| 35 here and games and motorcycle riding are my hobbies. As most here, been playing as a kid on an Atari and have never looked back. I ask myself that same question, but it is a nice outlet after all of the family duties and chores to relax and play a game. I am starting to find that RPG's are really fun. Not all of them, but Fallout 3 and Fable 2 are pretty fun to play. -- How about them Cowboys!

| I'm 35 and I don't just keep up, I bring tears to the pimple-faced teenage masses who call themselves "gamers". I'm usually one of the top 3 on the leaderboard after every match of COD (MW and WAW). Depends on the match, though. COD:WAW has some large maps where you have to hunt for campers cringing in dark corners (Outskirts and Seelow come to mind) so I usually fare a little worse on those maps. Those are the games where you time runs out before the score limit is reached.
I've owned just about every console since the Atari 2600. I've had Xbox Live since launch. Your reflexes and tactics will develop over time so I wouldn't worry about that. I don't think age has much to do with it. COD games aren't the most realistic or consistent shooters. Sometimes a lone bullet will drop your opponent and other times mulitple shots with an automatic weapon won't do the job.
Some of us have jobs, kids and other obligations so we can't spend all of our time online, but you're never too old to play video games. Hell, it's a lot cheaper than some of the other things I could be doing with my free time (though maybe a little less fun).
PS - I never prestige. I find it to be neither a reward nor a challenge to do what I've already done. I'm happy to be the guy sitting there with the four stars putting bullet holes in your corpse.

| 33 here, too old? I don't think so? Who decides what age is allowed to have what hobbies? Isn't that up to the user?
But as for twitch reflexes? Well, it really depends on the game. I've been gaming for years and I don't really define COD as a twitch game, I think of it more as a "smart play" or "best strategy" wins type of game. So therefore, a smart player who covers angles better and covers team mates better usually has the upper hand. I mean, sure, there is a twitch element to COD, people sneak up on you, you get caught by surprise, that type of thing. However, I still think strategy is a better option.
I'm pretty good at COD because of that style of play, sure there are faster aimers, quicker reflexed and probably these people are younger, but I usually beat them up on that game. I have a kill to death ratio of over 2 - 1, not that that's everything in that game.Plus, older people are better smack talkers! Not trying to sound conceited, just trying to make the point that I'm older and yet doing just fine on there, you can check out my stats on Xbox live, gamertag: RiVAL

1 edit | 34 (damn) and still game on my PS3 and PC alot.
Never have been a big FPS fan, but definitely enjoyed HL, HL2, CS, CS:S, etc...I'm never the man in them, but I think I do reasonably well after a while....its more about knowing how to play the maps imo, than it is skill, though I guess it could be considered one in the same.
I, too, run in to the problem of just not enough time...though I find my 2yr old son way more entertaining at times, but once he's asleep, bills paid, wife satisfied (hehe yea right), then its very cool to sit down inmy chair and play for a bit.
Currently playing more on the PC than the PS3 at the moment, but love my PS3 just the same. (Plus I love that I have it hooked up to my 52" LCD Sammy, streaming 1080p video from the PC upstairs and have it broadcast over my Onkyo 5.1 system...which is the other thing...as you get older, your toys get more expensive, but you can buy them without help from your parents!!) -- Let us so live that when we come to die, even the undertaker will be sorry. -Mark Twain

All I can say is.... Tru Dat! When I was a kid I would game on some pretty lame stuff, but as a kid I was happy just to be playing. Now of course, big'ol setup, keeping the inner child alive! In a way it's pretty cool to game with some of the kids on Xbox live. I find though that the crowd on Xbox seems to be about 20-38ish. There are some kids on there too, and it's fun to play with them on there as well, reminds me of me when I was a kid. However... some of them sure are mouthy, don't get me wrong, I can fire back too.... but some of them use that mic a little too much... thank god for the mute feature! lol -- +RiVAL+ was here... tell your friends!!

My parents are hooked on the Wii and I have all 3 systems along with a couple of high end gaming computers. I'm 32 now and I can remember my first console (Atart 5200) and have had just about every console since then. I'm pretty much a PC gamer now but I do enjoy tossing in a good game to one of the consoles when I don't have the time to play on the PC.
Oh, and I agree with neonhomer , COD4 multiplayer is incredible. It sucked me in instantly. I was a huge fan of the COD and COD2 multiplayer and COD4 is the best of that bunch. -- Does Microsoft mean small and squishy?
