[Info] DGL-4500 New firmware 1.21 beta

»ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dgl4500/fi···ta01.zip

Addresses the problems with 1.20 requiring a power cycle after a few days of running. Just keep in mind that it's a beta.

Re: [Info] DGL-4500 New firmware 1.21 beta

I'll be testing this out later, any news on other changes or is it just the power cycling bug?

There are a couple of items in the change log but it was written primarily to address the issues in fw 1.20.

It wasn't written primarily to fix the issues in the previous firmware. It's just more additions to fix small stuff. It still has the same problems as before. Very little code change. According to PM, the issues I was seeing when presented to them, they did not think were major at all. As far as I'm concerned, it's still exactly the same.

What they should be doing is fixing all the issues at hand, rather than adding all these other things to all their models. Seems to be what broke them, as it's happening across all of their top models.

Re: [Info] DGL-4500 New firmware 1.21 beta

Not seeing any de-orthentication wireless issues, but I am using the same settings as pre-1.21, which involves not using N, just g only. I haven't tried b,g, and n, but I don't intend too, as long as I don't get wireless disconnects/orthentication errors Im okay.

I personally don't like the idea of a beta if its basically a full release, I mean 1.20 was also in beta and nothing was changed for full release. I personally think its takes too long to get firmwares out, and to get issues fixed. I also want more information on beta/full release firmware notes, because I want to know what changes are made. I'm pretty unhappy with the support for the 4500 router, and I was unhappy with the support for the 4100, and 4300. There's still many wireless only issues and all current d-link routers; they really aren't being adressed.

Firmware does seem stable, and don't have any complaints yet.

Still not seeing any deorthentication issues, however been having some wireless issues like pages constantly loading but not fetching information, typical wireless d-link issues. This issue appears to happen when gamerfuel is turned on, turned gamerfuel off and so far getting a much sharper wireless performance, only time will tell.

SETTINGS THAT AREN'T DEFAULT.

GAMERFUEL: OFF

NAT Endpoint Filtering

UDP Endpoint Filtering: Endpoint Independent
TCP Endpoint Filtering: Endpoint Independent

Advanced Wireless Settings

Short GI: OFF
Extra Wireless Protection: OFF

WISH: OFF

Wi-Fi Protected Setup: OFF

Wireless Network Settings

Enable Wireless : Always

Wireless Network Name : (Also called the SSID) .

802.11 Band : 2.4GHz

802.11 Mode : 802.11g only

Enable Auto Channel Scan : OFF

Wireless Channel : 2.412 GHz - CH 11

Transmission Rate : 36 (Mbit/s)

Visibility Status : Visible

With settings so far, very few errors after changing from channel 11 to 1. Lowering the transmission rate from auto to locking in a rate seems to give me better performance. At this point its about seeing how individual changes effect wireless performance, all of these changes effect wireless performance, but until I get long loading worring pages I keep the wireless settings as is. Its pretty sad that I have to resort to this just to get normal wireless performance, but Ill keep at it, these are the best settings I've used so far.

Hell this one locks up my router at the 4 day mark as well.

Well I was gonna offer to beta test this since I too am a victim but frankly I've seen enough. I recommend everyone immediately file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau at »www.bbb.org

This will light some fires under D-Link and have a very negative effect on business if they don't handle their business. My router was running fine at 1.15 for months without a reboot, I upgraded last week and well now ya know the rest of the story (it just started). What's criminal about this is is they still have it on the website knowing full well there is a problem.

I just filed my complaint and I recommend everyone else do the same ASAP. They have an obligation to immediately replace these routers for down rev versions that work at their expense. We should accept nothing less!

Re: [Info] DGL-4500 New firmware 1.21 beta

i just filed a BBB complaint today, and I hope it resolves the issues quicker with this router. The only thing I ask for is the ability to downgrade to earlier firmware versions, I do not even care if they develope more features in new firmwares, I just want a stable router.

why dont u just stay with what works and keep 1.15 if that was running fine

Because starting with 1.20 you cannot roll back fw.

1.02 has serious issues with port forwarding...simply put...it don't work. So you will need to go to 1.12 or 1.15

i would rather have port forwarding problems than having to reboot or, lock up router all the time.Dlink claims the router is some how BAD and want you to send it back to them when it does this funny it didnt do it on 1.02 strange dont you think?

If you care to look at the dlink beta forums you will see where people want the 1.02 because they really didnt have problems with the unit, till they upgraded firmware 1.10 and higher.

it seems that if you turn off DNS relay in network settings, then the router will not freeze up after 3-4 days and cause the web gui to slow down to crawl.

I turned off this feature on all three of my d-link routers and so far the router has not frozen yet, the only other issue I am having now is the wireless performance has decreased by about 30% since 1.15, which I can handle until d-link issues the next firmware release.

Got a freeze after 10 days, full lock up, no wired, no wireless and no response from the web browser of the router.
If I turn dns relay off what exactly does it do?

If DNS relay is ON, the router gives the DHCP clients the router address for DNS lookup, and relays the request to the ISP DNS servers.

If DNS relay is OFF, the router gives the DHCP clients the address of the ISP DNS servers directly.

Sometimes, yes..sometimes, no. Turning it off puts less strain on the device.

For my testing purposes for the Beta FW's, I leave it on (which is default).

I just finished moving to a new place. And, I now have a somewhat stable connection using N/G, WPA2 AES only. It hasn't dropped out, nor has it locked up yet. 4 days strong now.

Failed...horribly right at 3 days. Whats worse, the so called replacement router they shipped also is failing on the wireless side on totally unrelated issues. A Dlink victims self help website is being worked on right now which will give victims of these issues help regardless of dlink router model. I expect to make the announcement and give the url in a few days if all goes well with the design. Included will be class action lawsuit information and other self help tools and links to regulatory agencies that you will need to also file complaints with. My advice is not sell that router...hold on to it because if you become one of the damaged class it will be useful as evidence.

No worries and trust me. Everyone will know! I'm still baffled by D-link's reponse to this and other similar incidents. Are they so smug as to think they could go business as usual and never would someone would come along and finally bust their a$$ for handling business like this? Not this time.

In the meantime...you need to do the following immediately.

1). File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org (this will get an immediate response from Dlink and replacement of your router - at least for now)

2). File a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs.

3). File a complaint with YOUR state's consumer affairs

4.) File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

5.) File a complaint with Rippoffreport.com

You may use the complaint text for each one (that way it saves you loads of time). Also save your paperwork and all emails, conversations, phone records...everything!

Your warranty status does NOT matter. Facts are if the firmware update that D-Link provided caused the damage they are liable to fix and/or repair the damage in a reasonable period of time. Almost 3 months is not reasonable.

Good luck and if you need any help at all let me know.

Re: [Info] DGL-4500 New firmware 1.21 beta

Well I got my replacement router on Monday but didn't install it and let me tell you why. For the first time my A1 is acting right and has been up over 9 days this time without any problems. I even tried loading the rtsp page that exposed problems to me in the first place when it was new and again no problem. D-link wants me to run it until it acts up so they can see how long it will stay up with 1.21b running.

Funny...most of us have not been so lucky. 1.21b failed right on the nose of 3 days for me and if you folllow the thread for the new firmware same for most everyone else but ONE person. What did you do differently and how is your bugger configured.

I posted the link because you can see what DLINK is doing with problem routers. First fix it and re-sell it.

Yep...

The main difference is that when most companies refurb things then to resell..they work as new or sometimes even better. D-link on the otherhand remains crappy and gets crappier. The replacement router they sent me for my A1 has problems of it's own, now of course they won't respond to my emails (hmmm...let's see, the warranty expires this month...makes ya wonder don't it...)

That's ok..no more D-link on my networks...pulled everything in general operation out that had a D-link label on it. This included switches, routers, bridges...you name it. Two different locations under several new brands now (and all working just fine). Was expensive short term but I'm pretty sure I'll be getting all my money back soon enough

How can I tell which unit I have? Also, I'm still running firmware 1.15 (wish I hadn't upgraded from 1.02) and everything seems okay, although once in a while my wireless degrades terribly and I am forced to reboot the router to fix the issue.

Should I upgrade or stay with 1.15?

And assuming DLINK doesn't get their shit together, what are some other wireless draft "n" routers that support tomato/ddwrt?

Re: [Info] DGL-4500 New firmware 1.21 beta

Ok there's a white label on the router body that has the sn and the hardware version on it. You can look at it and see which one you have. Chances are you have an a1 which is the problem router. When I received my new a2 it had 1.12 on it but yesterday I flashed to 1.16b3 which was the best post 1.02 fw I have used. Under no circumstance do you want to flash to any 1.2x firmware until d-link gets their ducks in a row. If fw 1.15 is working for you then I'd leave well enough alone.

What exactly is/are this/these "problem(s)" that I keep on reading about for A1. I see it mentioned but never stated what and how it is related to the hardware. Maybe I missed it while skimming? One I have seen is the three day lockup, but this seems intrinsic to the firmware.

I am curious because I do not have an issue with mine. However, not all features are in use. I do not use filtering, for example. Most of the features are in use though and I have not experienced anywhere near the complexity of complications I have read so far. So I am very curious.

Re: [Info] DGL-4500 New firmware 1.21 beta

Well I suppose the slow downs and lockups at the 3-4 day mark are the most serious problems. Many people complain of connectin drops with wireless but I don't use the wireless side so I wouldn't know about that. Then d-link released the 1.2x firmware that totally ruined the device rendering it unreliable. My a2 has been up over 9 days now and its still working right albeit with a lot of lan errors but it still works.

I experienced the same thing with the A2 among other things when it was running. I'm glad to see a more humble D-Link in the thread listed below. They finally might be getting the message that people are really pissed off and aren't gonna take it anymore. We're sitting tight waiting how this unfolds because IF this is a new trend then they deserve a chance...on the other hand if this is just another delay tactic as everyone has seen previously then we're gonna nail em.

You can follow this thread at:

MSG to D-Link - I know you're here watching this thread so I will throw you a bone...what I saw posted today was the very first humble and proper post I've seen so far. You admit the firmware was crap and you humbly address the concerns that people still have. In fairness to you...Kudos...its the right way to respond to a problem...keep it up and good things will come. I also noticed that you left the self help post up and didn't delete it on page 7. Again that was also a very smart and proper way of handling that. I know it stings...it was intended to sting and wake you up. Apparently it may have worked....hopefully going forward we'll have nothing but good things to post about you.

Hi all, Oh what fun I had on the D-Link forum. I got banned so many times speaking my mind it became a game.

I had the A1 then A2...Finally..
I sent mine back for refund but still login from time to time to fight the good fight, and warn others. This router is a joke and a shame to the once awesome DGL line.

ispgeek keep up the good fight.

The D-Link owners self help website is coming along nicely. Expect an announcement with the URL soon! This site will offer resources to help you immediately get your router replaced and/or a refund. They will also assist you in writing your FTC and Dept of consumer affairs complaints.

If you are an owner of a D-link product with hardware/firmware problems that are still unresolved despite all your efforts to have them resolve them or if you have recently upgraded your firmware only to have your router become useless or not perform as advertised. Immediately follow the instructions below and wait for more details on a website that is being developed now to assist you with these problems.

In the meantime...you need to do the following immediately.

1). File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org (this will get an immediate response from Dlink and replacement of your router - at least for now)

2). File a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs at »www.dca.ca.gov/online_services/c···nt.shtml

3). File a complaint with YOUR state's consumer affairs.

4.) File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at »https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FT···?Lang=en

5.) File a complaint with Rippoffreport.com at »www.ripoffreport.com/login.asp

You may use the complaint text for each one (that way it saves you loads of time). Also save your paperwork and all emails, conversations, phone records...everything! Do NOT dispose of, sell, trade or otherwise let the hardware go as this may become valuable evidence for authorities. If you need help filling out the paperwork you can ask at the sites listed below and someone will help you.

Your warranty status does NOT matter. Facts are if the firmware update that D-Link provided caused the damage they are liable to fix and/or repair the damage in a reasonable period of time. Almost 3 months is not reasonable.

Yay!! I would hope so. Hows your wireless range though or have you even noticed that the A2 wireless range is less that A1. Also have you had any problems with network devices just vanishing and despite all efforts not coming back until "they" want to? Those were the two biggest problems I had with the A2 when it was running.

Re: [Info] DGL-4500 New firmware 1.21 beta

I don't use wireless so I cannot comment on the range..sorry. Otherwise the pc's on my hard wired home network stay connected just fine with no drops.

You know it man. They don't delete my posts anymore and I'm still watching them very closely. I know you were there and got banned....they seem to be running a little more um...cautious than before. Stay with this thread and the other one here for more details. Time is running out quickly for them...the website is done, I've just kept it down in hopes we may actually be seeing a more customer friendly D-link but my goodwill is quickly fading.
