said by nascar :I'm curios how long it will take FiOS1 to cover the plane crash at the Rockaway Mall. Small plane and apparently no injuries for the concerned. these recent plane crash events show that fios1 is not yet equipped to cover breaking stories. give them more time. |

Everytime I pass by there seems to be some college game or talk show on anyway. Time's up for me on this one. I don't see a need to keep it as a favorite any longer.
Its almost as if people are tuning in to see if they are actually covering something they already heard about!! Not exactly the place to go for breaking news. Too bad. |

I don't think FiOS ever said FiOS1 was going to be a 24/7 news only channel. I think the model is the old CN8 which mixed news casts with other locally produced programming.
I do agree the FiOS1 news casts should be on at the same time the other local stations do theirs. The guide still needs fixing as what is on now and what is scheduled does not match. |

| Manny,
I think you're right. The 'news' is mostly during morning and evening rush hours and scattered throughout the weekend.
The college and H.S. games aren't very popular unless of course your kid is playing on the team.
With all of the other sources for breaking news the idea was to add a localized channel and not so much breaking news coverage... |

But, if they want FiOS1 to take subs away from News12 then FiOS1 needs a direction shift. |

Not that VZ should be a "me too" as the cable co's claim, but if the aim is to compete with News 12 (and they need to) I see no choice but to treat this as primarily a news channel.
If you want to add local sports to the mix they should really consider covering Long Island Ducks games. There is presently no TV coverage for them and that would be an interesting niche to be able to claim. |

I think you would be surprised how popular high school sports is. It may not be a popular as it is in other states but if people know a good HS Football game will be broadcast on FiOS I'm sure people will watch. |

I know part of Bayonne has been wired for a while but the other half (like me) apparently still can't get any FIOS. I really want to dump Cablevision. Especially for TV. |

| I'm noticing the the video on some local reports are almost TV quality but most still have noticeable video compression and the video zooms and pans are not clean. Anyone have an update on improving the video quality of the reports?
Some of the b-roll on local and national stories is looking much better but some still looks like it was taken off a website low quality stream.
On a different note, more High School Football games are coming to FiOS including live games.
NEWARK, N.J. September 10, 2009 Hometown football comes to North Jersey Friday (Sept. 11) when Verizon FiOS1 and the Star-Ledger begin co-producing high school football games of the week. The first game, Mendham versus West Morris, will be broadcast live 7:30 p.m. on FiOS1 New Jersey. These games won't be seen on cable TV. In addition to Friday's Mendham-West Morris game, other key games to be co-produced by FiOS1 and the Star Ledger/NJ.com include the "Turkey Day Classic" between Montclair and Bloomfield high schools, which will be broadcast live on Thanksgiving Day at 10:30 a.m., and four New Jersey state high school football games, which will be broadcast on Dec. 3 and 4. Also, FiOS1 will air four more state championship games live from Giants Stadium on Dec. 6. There will be tape-delayed broadcasts of other games. |
