| reply to N O Y B My understanding is some CFL lcd tvs and some plasma displays produce some type of "glare" (for lack of another word) as a byproduct of their operation. Some of the early boxes in the 7xxx series don't have as good of an IR filter as the 6xxx series did. The "glare" from the display may mask the stb receiver from accurately detecting an inbound IR signal.
Fact or fiction - urban legend - man or myth -- don't know. Don't have a degree in EE, physics, et al. Just what I've heard ...
I'm sure we have some students of the electromagnetic spectrum that can also weigh in on this -- shed some light (pun intended) |

| reply to N O Y B said by N O Y B :said by EMC2 :Long story short - a juiced up TV display setting may contribute to blocking the IR signal from remote to stb. Could you explain for me the IR remote control interference caused by juiced up TV display. That's what I don't understand, how can the order you put the TV and STB make a difference?
I can literally put the remote inches away from the STB and get no response, yet when everything is on and running, the remote works fine from across the room if I point it in the general direction of the cable box.
I did follow ricosuave 's advice and programmed the units to come on at the same time. That seems to work fine.. |

Good luck. |

| reply to BiggieB said by BiggieB :I had a similar a problem with my 7216 ..... Verizon sent me a IR Extender cable Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns." How did you arrange that? I called Verizon and spoke to several different people that said they don't supply it. One guy said go to Radio Shack, I did, and they don't have it either.
I went to Best Buys and picked up what looked like the right thing but didn't work. A SmartPath IRE-1. IR Emitter with Mini-Plug, made by SpeakerCraft.
Do you have an email address that might help me? Thanks |

| reply to Willy If you haven't already got the IR extender, try reprogramming the remote so that the STB turns on before the TV. Or vice versa. If you did already get it, and it works, than forget it. Maybe for someone else to try.
STB + OK 9-7-7 STB TV OK
In that order, for the STB, and then the TV to turn on. Or...
STB + OK 9-7-7 TV STB OK
But I'm going to bet that the first one will work for you. |

| reply to Willy In the interim, check your tv picture settings & see if it's set to "normal". Sometimes the tv displays are set to "brilliant" or "store" to attract attention on the showroom floor (brighter picture, etc).
Long story short - a juiced up TV display setting may contribute to blocking the IR signal from remote to stb. |

Willy Premium join:2000-09-24 USA | reply to Telcoguru Thanks. That's what I'm going to do. I just got a new base unit for the stereo and TV components and the receiver was going to be in a more accessible location.
I wanted to see if that made a difference first, it didn't. |

Telcoguru Premium join:2005-08-22 Fresh Meadows, NY | reply to Willy I believe that some of the 7200 & 7216 before a certain date have trouble with there IR module. If you can get the IR Extender cable from Verizon that should fix the problem. |

| reply to Willy I had a similar a problem with my 7216 and a non-responsive remote, just like you, and even after replacing the remote it still would not work correctly. Verizon sent me a IR Extender cable and since then ALL the problems I had with my remote not responding went away and it's a joy to use the DVR. Below is the email from Verizon Direct forum they sent me. This also fixed a problem that the remote would not work unless my TV was off.
"Thank you for your patience as well as for the update you provided. We are sending you out an IR Extender cable which was specifically designed to resolve issues where there is IR interference between the remote control and the STB. You should receive this cable by the end of the week. I will try to provide you tracking information once it becomes available. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns." |
