No, WSAH decided to drop RTV because RTV was having the technical problems. That's WSAH's side of the story, anyway.

There is an employee from WSAH that regularly posts on another board. According to what he is saying, they decided to drop WSAH due to unresolved technical glitches and local advertising spots that were not being broadcast.

The guide for WSAH still has some errors. First, the wrong I Spy series is listed for 6 PM. The one listed in the guide is a TV-Y rated educational show featuring characters named Spyler and CeCe; this is definitely not the correct listings for the classic Bill Cosby series. Second, there are listings in the guide for Night Gallery at 12 Midnight and Alfred Hitchcock Presents at 12:30 AM when there are actually infomercials on during those times. Finally, Verizon needs to change the logo on channel 19 WSAH from Gems TV to RTV.

maybe i am being too picky. too hung up on the channel. i found it strange to have a tornado warning for may 29th to come across the screen during quincy.i live in new york, connecticut is in another state, but it wasnt even in the same month. seems like gomer pyle is running things, i dont know

i just flipped on channel 19, on fios, had a infomercial with sound!!!!! The sound is just like any other channel. Did the powers that be fix the problem? All the complaining may have worked. congrats

This is due to the fact that most STBs put out a MONO RF feed and when out-of-phase audio is mono-mixed, it cancels. All you end up hearing is little differences in level and phase between channels (no two audio channels are -exactly- the same, then add "joint-stereo" into the equation).

The HD boxes, or the AV jacks will sound OK, but the stereo image will be off to the sides and not in the center like you're used to. This can be very unnerving and the untrained ear just finds it confusing and enraging.

I have been contacting VZ_Gustavo in the Direct forum about the audio and video issues with WSAH (channel 19) but he keeps insisting that it's a station problem and that there's nothing Verizon can do about it. It's a shame. I still find it weird that my HD DVR can pick up the audio well without having to raise the volume of my HDTV. That's the only TV set I can watch WSAH on without all the audio issues.

I watched magnum PI, the other day. It was great, havnt seen the show in years. I had to turn the tv volume all the way up to enjoy it, maybe next time i will remember to lower the volume when i change the channel

RetroTV is typically in mono (and offered as a subchannel by local OTA stations where it's offered at all). Here in Washington, DC, it's WJLA-TV/DT that offers RetroTV (subchannel 7-3).

I just read the Retro TV national lineup. I love crime dramas, and with Ironsides, Kojak, and It Takes A Thief, it makes me want it more. But, it's a wish list thing for now .

The audio seems decent, somewhat out of sync. The video keeps getting this red tint for a couple seconds every minute or so.

It never occurred to you, that this is your 8th or 9th call on this matter, I am aware of it and working toward getting it fixed. Also, I may have been working on many other things in order to bring you your FREE RTN programming.

The signal looks and sounds fine on Direct, Dish, Comcast Naugatuck Valley (CT), Cox Meriden (CT) and off air, all of which I have subscriptions or courtesy accounts. It looks fine at my boss's house in Jersey.

I cannot complain to FiOS on your behalf, nor can I do any more than I have, I cannot see the problem. Customer service in every company is trained to say "its coming to us that way" to get you off the phone as fast as possible with little or no work.

I spoke to the chief engineer again at WSAH. He still says Verizon knows of the audio problem. He said it's out of phase. This guy doesn't seem to care or seem very concerned. He's also the general manager. If I was the GM & chief engineer of a TV station and something was wrong with the audio, I'd make sure it was fixed ASAP and apologize to anyone who calls. This guy's attitude sucks. Oh well, if it doesn't get fixed by the new format, then I'm not watching it. He doesn't care, Verizon doesn't care, then neither do I. Shameful.

Maybe Verizon could strike a VOD deal with Retro TV, AOLin2TV, Youtube, or even Hulu. That might work, as there are still many fans of classic TV who would watch those shows in the VOD.

Some cable systems, like here in Fort Wayne, offer ION where there is no ION affiliate. Couldn't Verizon do the same with Retro TV, in lieu of making a deal with Hulu?

The video on now has is very compressed and the video keeps getting hits like bad tracking on a beta tape.
The audio might be a little lower then other channels but sounds clean.
In the past the audio has been very low.

The only way to know for sure is if someone picked up the OTA feed from WSAH in Connecticut. My guess is even if they fixed the fiber feed, it still won't be a great video/audio quality. Kind of like WRNN (6) or WLNY (10).

I got in touch with the chief engineer at WSAH, he didn't want to tell me much. He said it's the fiber feed to Verizon that's the problem and couldn't go into any detail as to a fix or anything. He must be on Verzion's payroll. Anyway, now we know it's Verizon's problem and we should all open a ticket in the Direct Forum so they hurry up and fix it.

One thing I would add is that most areas of the country on RetroTV on sub-channels, where the video/audio quality is kind of lackluster as well.
