Re: Holy Cow....Xbox 360!

I'm already sick of the motion control gimmick, but I understand why Sony and MS are jumping on the wagon (they can't ignore the Wii sales).

The technology/concept is amazing. Implementation is ridiculous. I don't want to play games by using invisible steering wheels, jumping around frantically, or just generally looking like I'm having a seizure. On top of that, not everybody has a big living room to play in.

Sure, it'll sell well with some hyperactive kids and people that are scared of using controllers, but the gamer market will never accept it in my opinion. When I was a kid, the big game was Super Mario World. You can't make that game better with motion control no matter how hard you try.

The Wii motion control gimmick was cool the first month or so. Then I realized just how few games actually use it correctly. There's no reason to have to make the controls more difficult for the sake of using motion control.

Sony actually wanted to include it to begin with, but there was something with Nintendo or the creator of the motion sense system that held it up.

I haven't seen it used a lot in my PS3 games. Possibly a few where you're in free fall and use the controller to drift to dodge things. there's at least one game that uses it pretty heavily, it think it's on the PSN store. Little Big Planet uses it for a bit of fluff with the Sackpeople to make them dance/pose.

It's a gimmick, to be honest, and I'm thankful that a lot of developers aren't using it a lot. sadly, Nintendo built their system around the gimmick. Which results in two things - developers either use it too much, or avoid the system entirely.

Nice to see MS "innovating" again, just like with the XboX360 Mii's.

As opposed to whom? All the companies are borrowing ideas from each other.

I personally think the whole motion control concept is completely stupid. But I think the Wii is completely stupid as well. I like to play games to relax. I have a nice comfy chair I sit in, put my feet up, rest the controller in my lap, and play Xbox. The last thing on earth I would ever want to do is stand up and physically exert myself to play a game. That to me defeats the whole purpose of playing a game, which is to relax. What is interesting though is millions of people don't think like me, and they love the idea of standing and and sweating while playing a game. So I can see why Microsoft is working on this technology, because obviously after watching Nintendo's success with the Wii the market clearly exists.

The Wii has been very successful with people who would not normally call themselves gamers. My mother-in-law is 60 and she has a Wii. She has never played a video game in her life, and the whole concept of sitting down and playing a game is boring and a waste of time to her. I just don't think she has the imagination or patience to sit down and play through a real game. She loves playing bowling on the Wii however, it's just more approachable to her. So if Microsoft can go after this same market they could be quite successful.

Edit: Original video is dead, here is another.

Haha this is great, I personally am not one of the fat gamers so I find I enjoy both motion sensing and the regular control games (usually prefer PC controls though).

I personally recognize both markets coexisting as perfectly viable in my home. I remember how much my parents and their friends enjoyed the Wii when it first came out.

This is going to be mostly popular for kids. Other than that, I bet it is going to cost a pretty penny as well.

Motion Control seems limited and gimmicky.

But Motion interaction might be interesting:

Who comes up with these names...Natal??? Where is the trigger? without a trigger is only good for half the games that come out. No thanks.

I think Sony has the better idea combining the wiimote with the Playstaion eye.

Only because it lets them sell two sets of hardware to make double profit.

At least this ting seems to be just the one (albeit super-sized) camera. I wonder if that thing does its own internal processing?

Did you watch any of the live demos? It's not made to be used with all current games, and you don't need a trigger when they already said they are working on tracking finger movements as well meaning you are the trigger.

Also for those claiming that MS is copying nintendo, you people don't actually think that Nintendo is the first company to come up with motion controls for games right? Just because they were the first to implement a form of it on a console does not make them the defacto creator.

MS unlike Sony and Nintendo is using Chromakey technology in an advanced way that has never been done before. It truly is innovative if you actually read the papers on how it works. This is the first step to eliminating even touch interfaces. Why have a touch screen monitor when I can just wave my hand or point at it instead?

Some of you also fail to realize how this technology can help certain business needs. I suggest you read up on how patent and some law document handlers use a special interface designed to work with a USB Playstation controller because it is much more efficient then a mouse. With this sort of technology they could eliminate the need for any sort of tactile input device.

Okay, if it's not designed for current game I don't want it because what they showed was lame...game wise. The menu browsing was cool.

When they can track a finger with 100% accuracy show me that video but for now I still think Sony has the better idea combining the 2.

Read the following: »gizmodo.com/5277954/testing-proj···tangible

Sony can never hope to achieve that level of immersion relying on a primitive IR setup using their eyetoy and some IR wands.

Also Sony's implementation isn't targeted to current games either...

Level of immersion? you mean gripping an invisible steering wheel?

Sony's set up is geared towards the same type of games that are currently available.

Re: Holy Cow....Xbox 360!

I'm sure you could hold up a real steering wheel and it'd work just as well , bit heavy though.

As for Natal...taking a wait and see approach (playing it safe ). Never know it could come out and be everything they promise it will be.

the idea is good, but i think no one will take the bait... for example, how you gonna do fps+drinking beer+eat popcorn and curse with hate with those motion sensor happening??

i believe a total wacko can do that... but not me

I'm pretty sure that with the voice recognition and scan ability alone, it will be worth having. I am pleased to see them come out with something that my kids can use. But I also move around quit abit while playing (hence the use of a wireless controller)...pretty sure i can't shoot zombies from my refrigerator. But I'll nibble on the idea and will buy it to see the dynamics. I'm sure it has pros and cons, just anything else that has ever came out. The day they release a perfect system is the day they go outta business.

It'll be a fade. Just like the Wii.

Everyone I've seen on another forum I go to has said they bought the Wii because of the motion sensing but got tired of it and the limited amount of games the Wii has.

I do like the skateboard part in the video though, the scan part was cool, I'd like to see that advance into more.
