[connectivity] Westell 327w DSL Modem Possibly Failing

Hello, this is Tom K :D

I have been using a Westell 327w DSL Modem for nearly five years. It is connected to only one desktop PC using the Ethernet connection. Wireless service is disabled. After nearly three weeks of contacting my ISP, Verizon Online, with complaints of constantly intermittant DSL service and very slow (Speed should be around 760 kbps, but it has only reached about 352 kbps and has dropped as low as 25 kbps) internet speed, I was told by a "technician" earlier this week that his "best guess" was that the modem is failing. However, no tests performed have proved this. I am copying a diagnostic log from late last night during a time this poor performance was occurring. If someone could please review the log and help me to understand what is taking place, I would appreciate it.

Physical symptons: Very slow to no DSL service. Modem Lights: DSL light: occasionally blinks steadlily especially during page opens and downloads, Internet: Sometimes on, sometimes off, and occasionally blinks especially during page opens and downloads. E1: sometimes rapidly flutters. Power: Steady green.

Essentially, I am trying to determine if I need to replace the modem or if the problem really exists at the Verizon "Central Office". The "technician"s have conflicted each other.

Thank you to anyone who can help me with this issue.

First of all you are not even getting you full download speed which should be 864 and your download noise margin is too low which is causing disconnects. If you can retest from your NID. Try that first otherwise you are going to need a service call.

What did you find out? Missing/bad filters? Don't leave us hanging. We could learn something if you update this.
