most cable companies will not allow server on the residential accounts.

Cablevision/OOL seems to be the exception. They offer the Boost tier which allows servers.

But why would I want to run a server at home, when I can get it colocated or get a hosting account where they have oodles of bandwidth, cooling, redundant power, fire protection and 24x7 staff.
