Re: [Scam] Cruise line mail?

i'm still on my vacation and i'm looking up the scam-that should tell you something. yes you get a hotel room-it's about as nice as a motel6-and the free buffets which are pretty crappy and you still pay tax and tip-around 5 bucks- and yes you get a cruise-we paid 129 each for port charges and were told it's all inclusive except alcohol but you had to pay for sodas as well and the 20 bucks a night per person charge for waiters/etc and the 8 dollars a night per person charge for fuel-then there are the free tix to disney or universal which didn't come in writing-only mine when i wrote down what i was supposed to be getting-so i can't go to them b/c they won't give me tix-then there's the timeshare crap that you have to go on-and there's the fact that i was told i'd have 3 years to take my package and it was only 18 months-and the hotel taxes of 15 dollars a day for the crappy place-and the charges to park your car while you cruise-and the fact that you still eat out and pay to go and do things-BASICALLY your cheap luxury package is just that without the luxury-CHEAP. oh yeah-i'm supposed to mail in my receipts to get my hundred dollars back since we didn't get the crappy little subcompact rental car-we'll see if i ever see that money. so here's the thing. get yourself online and find a cheap room and right now there are some cheap cruise deals. check out discovery's cruise specials. good luck.

SCAM

Here are the points that I don't think have been covered in my experience with Caribbean Cruise Line.

In BBB, they have an F rating, not the B+ someone claimed earlier. I asked about the F rating in BBB, and the representative's response was that if I did any research, I would find that McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's also get negative reviews.

They have changed their business name and/or address several times. I google mapped the address on an email from them, and it is a home address (try it: 531 SE 5th Ct., Pompano Beach, FL). I asked the "general manager" who the President/CEO was (as it was stated in the email), and she did not know.

I bluntly, but politely brought all of these concerns to the "general manager's" attention, and she got increasingly frustrated with no answers, until she lost her cool and hung up on me.

Also, check CAREFULLY into the "Porthole Magazine" award they claim to have won. I am awaiting a call back from their publisher. The representative that I spoke to was skeptical and aware of the issue.

I am currently in law school, and find this to be of extreme interest (and may be good practice). I am not done scrutinizing their practices. I intend to pursue this issue in its entirety so that they will not continue taking advantage of innocent consumers.

Can you cite a reference or a link to the "F" rating ?.

I presume the B+ rating referred to earlier is this one:

Our complaint history for this company shows the company gave proper consideration to some complaints presented by the Bureau. However, the company failed to respond to one complaint.

The Bureau has been contacted by consumers who state they received notification from Caribbean Cruise Line informing them they won a free two day cruise to the Bahamas for a minimal charge to cover the port charges and government fees. The company then attempts to sell upgrades ranging from $200 to $800. Consumers state Caribbean Cruise also asks for their credit or debit card information.

VACATION CERTIFICATES

General Advice:

Before you decide to accept this type of offer and before you give any money, you should understand the requirements and conditions of the offer to determine if they meet your needs. Determine the complete cost involved when accepting the offer and then do comparative shopping with a local travel agency before making your final decision. Never agree to purchase anything over the phone or through the mail until you see the written contract. Once you receive the contract, make sure the written material confirms everything you were told over the phone or received in the mail.

Don’t be pressured by any company to give them an immediate decision until you are sure that the vacation offer is as good a deal as it seems. Simply tell the company that you would like the opportunity to check this out and you'll call them back in a few days. Be sure to fully understand the company's terms and conditions as well as any refund or cancellation policy prior to agreeing to accept the offer or giving any money. According to Florida's "Sellers of Travel Act", you may cancel the contract without any penalty or obligation within 30 days from the date you give or sent a signed contract and payment to the seller/promoter, unless you are given a guaranteed travel date. If you decide to cancel, you must notify the seller/promoter in writing of your intent to cancel by returning the certificate and sending notice to seller at their address. To verify that the company is registered contact the Florida Division of Agriculture & Consumer Services at: 1-850-922-2832.

Remember even if the company is registered with the State, this does not in itself afford you the assurance of legitimacy.

It may be possible that more than one local BBB afiliate has rated them.

With the advent of google street scene consumers will be able to out these scams operating from homes.

Gone are the days of post office boxes fronting for legitimate businesses.

Re: [Scam] Cruise line mail?

I got a similar voucher in the mail about 2 days ago and it appeared legit. After calling for 2 days I finally got in touch with a guy called Michael St. John. As to whether that is his real name I have no idea. He was well spoken and persistent. He said I was chosen based on my demographic to receive the free cruise and all they want from me is to spread the word of mouth. So, I listened for nearly an hour for what he had to say. He was not too receptive about me asking questions. He dogged them every change he got or said "I am about to get to that." He gave me the website caribbeancl.com and I checked it out immediately. Again, it seemed legit because Carmen Electra appeared on the website as the spokesperson. He ended up transferring to a woman who was pleasant. After making the amazing offer I said I have to check with my boyfriend and that I will call them back. Then she said that once this voucher is activated I ether have to accept right away or loose it. I then said I can't. And she responded by saying that only this time they will make an exception and will call me back in an hour. Before that, I had them email me the offer from . I had my boyfriend Google them and found this forum. I compared the vouchers and they semed nearly 100% identical, and were signed by the same person. They called me back and I said no. Thanks guys

My wife just got this in the mail today. I googled it and couldn't find anything at first, so she called and handed the phone to me when they started making the sales pitches.

I spent about an hour on the phone with them, listening to every word they said and googled it as I went along. Sounded great, everything sounded legit. I asked why we were picked, and he said the same crap about being in the age group and traveling habits. That made sense, since we've probably spent 3 months in hotels in the last years on all 3 coasts.

Anyway, when that hour came to the end, he finally said the thing about $399 each for an extended stay package. I asked "is that required?" he said "absolutely not, what is holding you up? the price?" I said "yeah, pretty much." So, he transferred me to his manager, the manager gave me the same little pitch of $399 each and when I said no, he said he would upgrade us to a deck room and all this other stuff for $260 each. I asked him too, if this was required. He told me that it wasn't and I could just take the free cruise if that's what I wanted and asked if that's what I wanted. As soon as I said "yes" his reply was "ok thank you for your time buddy." CLICK.

Yes, he actually hung up on me.

Stay away. Don't waste your time.

Hello All, I recommend you burn these offers fast and pray they do not have your phone number. They will harass you endlessly and then if you make the mistake of taking there offer, good luck trying to cancel it. Florida Law allows 30 days to cancel a transaction and in order to do so you must contact the company. Be prepared for them to speak over you and argue with you and be rude to you and disconnect you. You will need to phone many times to get it resolved or in my case take it to your credit card company to dispute it and have them investigated for fraud.

This company is scamming people and harassing them, the product is real but I can book much better cruises at the same cost or for less. There is nothing free about this offer and it is not worth the grief.

Hey, you should go again now 14 Years later as they have the exact same rooms, the same mattresses and the same linens as when you were there last. I think the paint, carpet and curtains are still original too. It is the same ship too and the cabins are unchanged.

What's really cool is that, the more they respond the higher the thread ranks on google. Nice that they keep bumping it.

I received this exact same thing in the mail yesterday. After sitting on the phone for over 30 mins, the "salesman" wanted to charge my card, something like $680. I am under the impression that this amount has to do with some Ramada hotel stay or whatever he was talking about. But if you went through with this whole ordeal, you would still have to pay all the add-ons or a rental car and for the cruise, which is not included in the above amount. However, if you do not want to get a rental car, the company is claiming they will reimburse you up to $100 for gasoline charges to drive down to Florida. But if you do get the rental car, that means you are paying for a flight as well to Fort Lauderdale, FL. And also, further investigating this "Porthole" magazine they have mentioned in the flyer, This magazine company sounds and looks made up, just to add onto the sales pitch and glamor of this expensive vacation. I would not do this. If you want to take a cruise I'm sure you can find a package cheaper than $700.

@embarqhsd.net

And I was also noticing other posts to this scam, talking about how they are constantly changing their address. This is strange, the address on the envelope says suite 101 but the address on the ticket form is 200 Knuth Rd, suite 100 Boynton Beach, Fl.. I Google Maped this location and it seems to look like a business unit with a name of "Ramada Plaza Resorts" coming up.. So I would yield this whose action to be a sales pitch and scam put on by Ramada.

I believe the scammers are paying a royalty to Ramada; they might not be directly involved. But they blow off complaints, so they are still "enablers".

Ramada Inn and Ramada Plaza resorts are not the same entity. It appears as though the latter is trying to polish a turd by claiming they are affiliated with a well known national hotel chain when in fact they are not.

Oral misrepresentation is a common tactic among telemarketing scammers.

Oddly enough, a Google search for Ramada Plaza Resorts brings up the Ramada website as the second hit. I'm sure the scammers know this.

You can track this back to some program or credit card you signed up to. If you read the privacy policies carefully you will see they have taken the time to write "they have the right to share your information with affiliates and third parties." Basically lots of junk mail.

Well, I came back several times today (home with a sick child), and read a lot of posts on other topics, and am learning a lot about phishing, etc.
But I see my posts have been removed.
Sigh.
I'm not computer-saavy. Guess I offended someone.

Well, I did learn some things - can't figure out how to contact moderator with my question about being removed because I'm not a member.

Well, it's been nice.

Maybe it was intelligence that you offended.
Not to get into your age, but if you're old enough to remember Columbo, your posts reminded me of him.
