I must confess that I normally walk to Davis in the morning, so I did not avail myself of the free coffee. I wish someone near here were giving some away now. I could do with a caffeine jack-up... -- "Strive to change the world in such a way that there's no further need to be a dissident." Lawrence Ferlinghetti |

| MsTerra , I just looked at the Davis station online and have a question - the tracks turn into the bikepath after alewife, are they still being used as tracks from Alewife inbound? I don't remember seeing them above ground the few times I've been in that area recently. -- "While you can teach an old dog new tricks, you simply can't teach him to be a cat."

| I think the bikepath (rail trail) is built over a different set of tracks. The red line is all underground between the terminus at Alewife and where it comes above ground after Kendall to go over the Longfellow Bridge. Charles/MGH is an above-ground stop, and then it goes underground again until (IIRC) JFK. -- "Strive to change the world in such a way that there's no further need to be a dissident." | I was looking at this map - »www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/···1.122527. If you expand it you can see where the tracks end at Alewife and become the bike path. -- "While you can teach an old dog new tricks, you simply can't teach him to be a cat."

| I think I see what you mean, but the tracks you're referring to aren't T tracks. I believe they're a disused rail line, some of which has been paved over and turned into a rail trail. I've ridden the bike trail from the Cedar Street end in Somerville all the way out to the Bedford end and back quite a few times, and I can say with some confidence that the T tracks don't become the bike trail at Alewife. In fact, the segment of the bike path between Mass. Ave. and Alewife just kind of dumps you off in the plaza outside the station, and you have to figure out to ride through, ride up route 3 for a short way, and then pick up the trail again where it heads into Arlington. I wish it were as straightforward as it appears on that map. -- "Strive to change the world in such a way that there's no further need to be a dissident." Lawrence Ferlinghetti |
