Re: [ Classes] Rogue Leveling Spec?

I prefer'd combat lvln myself. But i'd also have to say combat would probably mesh better with a druid imo.

Thanks for the responses guys. Looks like I'll play around a bit with the sub and combat specs.

I really appreciate the leveling progression, Jiga. My wife and I played for about an hour the other day and hit level 9 together. The RAF bonus is huge.

I'm going to look to transfer my priest over to my wife's account so I can roll a pally/priest when she's not up for playing.

Yes Dropper, sub is a good way to level just as combat is. What combat provides is up-in-your-face-fighting. There is no need to stealth at all. Grab 5+ mobs of equal level and shred them to pieces. Combat provides hard hitting with survivability.

He can do either way, they both work. I've done it both ways and find combat to be the easiest personally. Grab all the mobs and BF/AR them down. With the short cool downs of the two you can use it all the time.

Why when you can evade almost all their attacks until only one mob is left, or just vanish and run away as any good rogue should do?

I'll say it again, but don't believe me if you choose not to, leveling as sub is the easiest way to level. You have stealth the equivalent of 3 levels above your own and can move faster while stealthed. Add to that 5 pts in combat for offhand damage, and maybe 13 in assassination for extra punch on your second hit, and you'll be two shotting most mobs you come across after lvl 60.

At lvl 80 I did 16,000 damage in two hits while I was dressed in lvl 78 crafted blues. You have over 50% chance to crit on ambush and you'll always have 5 combo pts for a nice 8K eviscerate. There isn't a non-elite mob in Northrend that can take that much damage and live.

Get into trouble? You'll have two evasions and two vanishes, as well as a much lower cooldown on both.

go combat for blade furry. If you ever pull more than 2 mobs you'll need this.

I leveled both my toons as subtlety. The reasons were mostly because the improved stealth and increased speed while stealthed are huge bonuses to getting quests done quickly, and questing is by far the quickest way to level.

However I also noticed something when I reached the 60s. Subtlety gives MASSIVE burst damage. Two shotting mobs is almost difficult not to do (or three if you prefer to start with a cheap shot).

The reason is you'll have 5 combo points on your second hit no matter what your opening move is.

When it comes to dailies the same is true, which is why my toon has a sub spec under the new dual specing.

The last reason to go this way is being able to break up the monotony with PvP, and there is no better spec for PvP.

Obviously sub specs are useless for raiding, but they're ok for regular dungeons and heroics. Combat and Mut are of course far superior because after the initial burst damage, sub offers next to nothing. If you don't kill your target fast, it takes too long.

But when you're leveling you get to vanish, evade and so on more often because of decreased cooldowns and prep, so you can take on multiple mobs with no more difficulty than either of the raid specs. In fact I'd say taking on multiple mobs is easier. I tried doing dailies spec'd combat and I hated the fact I'd actually take damage. You simply don't take damage as a sub rogue, not if you use your cooldowns and sub talents right.

For the early levels, 1-50ish, combat works the best with a couple of talents from the assassination tree. Crits put it pretty good in his reply.

For starters
2/2 Sinister Strike
5/5 Dual Wield Specialization
5/5 Malice
3/3 Improved Eviscerate (this will be your main finisher at low levels)
5/5 Precision
2/2 Endurance
1/2 Improved Slice and Dice
5/5 Aggression
3/3 Lightning Reflexes
1/1 Blade Flurry
5/5 Sword Spec

That's something I would do for starters.

I found Combat Swords to be the fastest leveling build. Don't waste time and energy working daggers from behind when you can just smash their teeth in.

Thats the good thing about rogues, there is really nothing that will make you level faster. Subtely is better if you like to take on one mob at a time. Mutilate will give you good survivabilty with quick recovery and faster moving with fleet footed, and combat will allow you to take on 3-4 mobs a level or four higher than you at one time. It really just depends on how you want to level. Personally i recomend a combat sub hybrid build. Gimme your level and ill see if i can make a decent spec. Still as long as you dont get PvP talents then there is really no way you can go wrong for the first 40 levels with rogue. For starters i can tell you to get these three talents at least. Get imp Sinister strike, and get all 5/5 points into malice.

are they linked accounts. like the RAF accounts??? if so. pick toons that are within 4 levels of each other so they both benefit from the XP buff. hunter/shaman, priest/pally night be a good combo.

I recently convinced my wife to RAF with me and she picked a nelf druid, so I picked up a nelf rogue to play with her.

The Rogue talent trees are somethin' else. Unlike every other class, a leveling spec is pretty hard to figure out on your own.

Anyone have a progression for leveling? What glyphs should I fill in as my spellbook unlocks? And is there a profession that provides *amazing* synergy with a rogue? I've tentatively picked up Herb/Alch and my wife is going LW/skinning.

EDIT: I'm also considering transfering one my chars to her account to group with while not playing with hers. What are the best pairing combos? I have a 20 priest, 20 pally, 20 shaman, 20 hunter, 36 druid, and 57 warlock. I have no problem grouping the druid or lock and just setting them to passive follow while questing on the lower alt until they've caught up. I'm interesting in topping out the druid or shaman soon to help the guild in raids. Any thoughts?
