And as Johny Carson used to say:

"How do you get there? Let me tell you friends, how do you get there! You take the San Diego Freeway to the Ventura Freeway. You drive to the Slauson Cutoff, get out of your car, cut off your Slauson, get back in your car, then you drive six miles till you see the Giant Neon Vice-Squad Cop."
Ah! But you forgot to "take the Oxnard off ramp."

Oh I missed it. Don't watch Conan. Can't wait for Jay Leno to return. Conan is sophomoric in his humor. Temporarily, I have switched to Letterman and re-runs of Seinfeld. Anything but Conan....Just my opinion.

TNID.ORG no longer offers LIDB lookup. Useless.

Now the TNID.ORG is more or less COMPLETELY USELESS

Type in a number and it will only lead you to a site which you must PURCHASE the information, which I'm sure is in violation of the database access grantee's terms of use.

Same functions can be obtained from
Searchbug.com landline or cell look up and I'm sure many other databases. The only thing that made TNID worth anything is that it provided a hot access to LIDB, but that's no more.

No. What made and makes the site useful is access to *provider* information.
This is especially helpful for ports.

The site currently doesn't have CNAM at all; the so-called paid feature you are referring to was there all along (even when CNAM was being provided) and it just links to
»www.reversephonedetective.com

The site remains useful for underlying carrier information.

True, but the same information has been available on searchbug.com landline or cell long before them.

The differentiation between them and TIRS/TNID was that it provided real CNAM from a live LIDB.

Excellent tip! »searchbug.com is a great resource for all of us to remember.
$9.95 for possibly similar extra cost info.

The LIDB info costs each time.
I could see an advertisement-based version ...
Play a short video before rendering the info perhaps.
Even so, some company might archive/cache the result.
I do not know what the LIDB TOS was, but I expect that is where they went too far before.

In truth, I miss »anywho.com before ATT bought them out.

ANYWHO used to let you update your personal details in their listing. You updated info online, then confirmed, from a phone with matching CID, by calling a toll free number.

The searchbug.com info is not up-to-date as far as current carrier. 100% of the 9 numbers I searched showed the original carrier of record but in each of these instances, the person has chosen a different carrier and has long since ported to them.

I admire your passion, but you need to work on your accuracy. Though tnid.org no longer accesses caller ID info, it still accesses the LRN database, and seems to continue to provide accurate information about the current carrier of a phone number, which is the title of this thread.

If it were me, I would have stated simply "hey guys, TNID.ORG doesn't have caller ID info anymore, but you can get it at searchbug.com." That would have been friendlier and more helpful.

Let's all be accurate. searchbug says "issued" not current carrier. so it's not a bug ... it's just not answering the question of "current carrier."

Agreed here too.

Searchbug is interesting, but their carrier data is definitely out of date compared to TNID.ORG

I don't care about caller ID. It's the carrier data that's of primary interest.

It's not really out-of-date, it's just llimited to NPA-NXX-N block assignment info, which is provided on many sites.

It would be good to know why the site no longer shows CNAM info and if that feature is likely to be revived any time soon, even if only on a pay-basis
Don't worry -- It will be back. Right now we're concentrating on taking care of our commercial customers, though. Contact me privately for details.

That's incorrect. The addresses don't come from LIDB through that service. It doesn't violate anyone's terms of use.

That's also incorrect. Searchbug offers only watered down LERG data that shows what telco is assigned the exchange a given phone number is in. TNID shows the actual current provider, and where do you suppose that comes from? (Hint: It starts with "L" and ends in "DB")

With all of that said, we still have full real-time LIDB access. We chose not to display CNAM results for now for reasons I'm willing to discuss in private, but if anyone needs CNAM, Name and Address, Current Provider, or any other LIDB information, please don't hesitate to contact me directly at sales@tnid.org.

Cheers!

I believe it was mentioned somewhere that the service wasn't really for our benefits, but to draw people into shelling out $$$ for per-pay information.

IMO it's sketchy that you decline to discuss reasons in public.

If members here were to contact you, would you provide the information no strings attached, or are you going to ask for personal information and/or $$$$ ?

Verizon Wireless people

Also, for Verizon Wireless users, if you're interested in checking if the #s you are curious about are VZW as well for the purpose of M2M minutes, you can check that on your account on vzw.com, or on your handset, Go to My Account, M2M(option 8), then enter up to 3 phone numbers and it will report back if the #s are eligible for M2M.
