| DIR:655 - Virtual Server broadcast address in 1.31
I recently upgraded to firmware 1.21 and it seems Dlink broke the ability to enter a broadcast address in the Virtual Server page. I use this to implement Wake on lan by forwarding UDP packets on port 7 to 192.168.2.255. This problem is documented here »forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=2849.0
Can anyone who has upgraded to 1.31 tell me if they have fixed this?
Also does the 30/30/30 routine allow you to downgrade from 1.3x?

| No the 30/30/30 won't let you downgrade it just clears the NVRAM. You would have to completely clear the FLASH ROM chip to do that. Not recommended. I won't even touch that as you would have to short out the chip. If not done right you can kiss goodbye the router. |

| can someone who has upgraded to 1.31 please try adding an entry in the Virtual Server page with the destination address ending in 255? after 1.20 it returns an error and I need to see if they fixed it in 1.31 before upgrading since we cannot downgrade back.

FYI - I have WOL working over the internet using the DIR-655 with the latest 1.31 firmware.
Seems as though it won't let you broadcast over the lan using the typical broadcast address in the virtual server but it does let you if you change your subnet to 255.255.255.128 and then use 192.168.0.127 as the broadcast address.

I know this is asking a lot but if you have detailed instruction on how to set things up and do the wake on lan I will either spin your straw into gold or take your first born male child.
That sounds absolutely cool and is something I have wanted to do for a long time. But even commercial programs that claim they do wake on lan packet transmissions have not worked worth a Poo!

The router is a DIR-655 and the clients are two laptops and one desktop. All are wake on LAN capable, so they claim.

I've got the DIR-655 and WOL works just fine for all my hosts. Take a look at this article to learn about WOL:

On the DIR-655 setup page, go to the Advanced page. You'll need to add an entry for WOL on the Virtual Servers list. Use port number 9, protocol UDP, and set the host to be your lan's broadcast address. This would depend on the subnet netmask you are using.
Post your router ip address and subnet mask and what version ROM you are using for the DIR-655. |

So pc turns on by itself when I enter the office?
I have the DIR -655 so not sure how to use the virutal server if I ever wanted to use it. |

Hi all,
Maybe it's a little bit late to reply, here's my 2 cents for this problem.
I am using firmware 1.21 and the javascript at Virtual Server page do not allow me to save the boardcasting IP 192.168.0.255 for wake on lan.
I know that I could change the subnet mask to make it work for IP like 192.168.0.127, however, that would make me need to change a lot of assigned IP in my network. I still want to boardcast at IP 192.168.0.255.
My work around is like this:
1. Login the router and go to Virtual Server page.
2. Just fill the table with port 9 and route to IP 192.168.0.255 and check the box for activation.
3. If you press Save settings now, you will get an error.
4. What I do is type "javascript:mf.submit()" at the address bar.
5. This will bypass the checking function of javascript and directly save the form.
6. Now the settings should be saved and working. |
