Ok...so verdict is not to flash this firmware. I'll wait for the next one. I'm currently with 1.21 (no securespot) and everything is perfect. No need to mess it up with 1.31. lol I just had the same firmware, sorry to say but I did upgrade, I regrett it and I'm switching to a 825 instead. |

@ingcanada.com | reply to dcurrey You would think that firmware updates would make a router better not worse..sigh |

1 edit | It's been a few weeks with the Belkin N+ no issues with N of course I have to use 802.11b/802.11g/802.11n mix mode and 20/40Hz and width wireless channel mode on. wireless protection on. Still through-out it's the same speed for N, but everything connects no drops in wireless or wired. I did connect a home-made NAS-60GB I had around in USB External Case using a Maxtor HDD to the USB Storeage Port on Belkin N+. Everyone said it would be slow but actually is fast. Signal up on the second floor is very good.
Media streaming large movies have been excellent. I was using Hulu I didn't see any issues over the wireless. I can use my wireless laptop to tap into my HTPC to view recorded media.
I wish I could use the 655 with it as AP but as soon as I turn that on it screws up the wireless N freq. Oh well... |

@ingcanada.com | reply to dcurrey I have no problems streaming HD video from my laptop to xbox 360 using:
dir-655 A3 Firmware: 1.21 (no securespot) Nov 08'
I will not upgrade my firmware until a stable firmware comes out..1.31 in my opinion still looks like a mess. |

1 edit | reply to dcurrey On 1.32, I still get the occasional problem with pages suddenly not loading even though my wireless strength is full (after browsing problem-free for a time). I have to turn off my Macbook Airport wireless, then turn it back on and it works again. I wonder should I just return this and get a Belkin N+ or another router?
BTW, my settings are DNS Relay On (I tried off, didn't make a difference), N&G-only network, autochannel, 20/40, WPA2. |

What are they? 1.9GHz (DECT 6.0), 2.4GHz, 5.8GHz?
I just replaced my 5.8GHz DSS to DECT 6.0 (1.9GHz) as I did learn that even though 5.8GHz only one acts in that band and the rest 3x will only use 2.4GHz, what a bunch of crap! Anyway they're 3 years old and were giving me issues. Now I got 5x DECT 6.0. Energy Star rated wow wee..
Prior to the wireless don't have issues but if the DNS Relay On or Off (you still need this feature though)
Word out is that Atheros chipset has issues with wireless dropping. So no matter what firmware DLINK throws out not going to solve the issues. Since it's hardware related. Have dlink give you all brand new 825 B1 hardware but that too uses 9200 series since the 9100 series had issues. Atheros chipset dual which would be NPU and WPU. |

1 edit | There are no landlines in my place, only two cell phones.
I do live in a big apartment complex, but I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I always get a good amount of signal strength on my computers.
I bought my 655 in March. Would D-link give me another 655 or a 825 if I paid the difference? Do the 825s have similar issues? |

You have to call them up and tell them the issues you have or just tell them you are getting Int error in the wireless. 825 you would have to ask them. |

| reply to dcurrey I made the mistake of upgrading to this absolute abomination.
I've disabled the Securespot junk and DNS relay - but it's still incredibly iffy.
Yesterday none of my machines could browse after around 3 hours of router uptime. DNS wasn't resolving (router configured for opendns). On at least one machine it couldn't ping the router itself (my entire network is wired). On another machine I couldn't ping anything, but my connection to irc was surprisingly intact.
Lesson learned about upgrading firmware revisions. I trusted DLink when I shouldn't have and now sorely miss 1.21.
What's everyone's advice on this now? Are there any other settings I can toggle to get this router stable now, or am I stuck until DLink address their rectal-cranial inversion on this firmware? |

| reply to dcurrey I'm glad I came here to see how the 1.31 was going for those who upgrade. I've been running 1.21 for a while and it is very stable and reliable. If it's not broken, don't fix it...
However, I was interested in seeing if 1.31 squeaked out better 'n' connection/speed than 1.21. I'll wai until they fix 1.31.
No ability to revert back to a working version? bad idea.... |

| reply to dcurrey Yeah - totally agree. The betas are "better", but still not 100%. I still have to reset my routers every couple of days with these firmware revs.
If I were given the ability to backrev to 1.21, I would do so in a heartbeat and NEVER upgrade my DIR655 ever again.
Again, lesson learned. Anyone else in the same boat as me?

@uni.edu | reply to dcurrey I was going to buy a DIR-655 this weekend, until I found this thread. What are the chances that if I bought one that it would already have 1.31 installed? |

| Highly unlikely...
If you get one and it has something prior to 1.3, rejoice. You now have the best router on the market.
If it has 1.31 on it, return it as soon as you can, because they are taking their sweet time to fix this debacle. |
