4 days way too long. 24 short ?

When i ported my number around , it happened usually in less then an 1hr on wireless. Why cant wireline carrier, have the same standard ? When i once ported my landline it was 15 days. way way too long..

Why does it take so long. Look at who you are calling to get it done. Some poor Filipino, Indian National, or whatever, who's powers of English are not really up to the task of listening to a life long American English speaker. Working from scripts, and so on. I don't blame these people they are just trying to make money to feed there families. I do however blame the companies who take advantage of the cheap labor costs, and who do not care about their customers. Are you reading this Qwest?

It does not matter about the poor Indian or Filipino. In the many instances that I have had to deal with the Indian often spoke better English than my other feloow Americans. Only issue was the accent.

That's besides the point - the poor Indian or Filipino does not set the rules by which these companies work. The number port is draggedon by the incumbent Telco to make you want to give up and simply stay with them.

I just put in a request about 30 minutes ago to port a Vonage number to our VOIP through XO. I was told bad scenario is 30 days, but usually 2 weeks. I do think it is a problem, but considering security, there are some checks and balances that must be implemented to insure that the right number is ported and there is proper authorization. Of course the FCC plays their part.

That is the point of what I was trying to say these people work from the rules set up by the Telco's they are working for. Personally I find Hindi accented English music to my ears, keep in mind in India it is a big thing to speak english, They are trained in English, English, not American English. Etymologist are saying there is presently about a 10% different between the two versions.

Wait until you try to port a number AWAY from XO....Took us weeks and they still intercepted calls from other XO customers and routed them to our old inaccessable mailbox for another month! Don't forget the 30 days advance notice also.

(i thought Vonage used XO actually)

Thanks for the encouragement.

Hopefully if Vonage uses XO it will be a quick port over.

I know the problem about XO routing internal numbers. I had to configure our phone system to use a backup AT&T POTS line for another sites 1-800 #. Otherwise it kept on going to a fax.
