|  [Scam] Supportonclick.com scareware scam
A lot of people have been reporting that they have been receiving cold calls from someone with a heavy Indian accent claiming they received a report that their computer is infected with a virus and is about to crash, and then offering to sell on a website called www.supportonclick.com software that supposedly fixes it.
In fact the software is nothing more than rogue security software, and the scareware scammers are hoping people will fall for it at $30-50 a pop.

| I started getting these calls in January. It took me telling them 3 different times to quit scamming me. They kept trying to tell me they were working with Microsoft. I kept telling them they were scamming me and I was no fool.
Knock on wood, but no calls since then. Three different calls from the same person on 3 different days.

hmmm, these a$$holes may have just called my stepdad. he just bought a computer last week and just went online today. he was telling me about a call he received a few days ago, monday i believe, about something being wrong with the computer and how it needed to be fixed. which i told him it had to be bs because his computer wasnt even online!!

Please explain how someone who has never had access to someone's computer can call that person and tell them that they know/'recieved a report' (from where since no one else would have access either) that the person's computer is slow?
They can't because it's a lie. |

Scam shill joins broadband site and posts to scambusting forum in an attempt to boost same scam. This results in unintended boosting of Google page rank.

May be I am posting twice. I cant see my post somehow. Here it goes:
I am nervous because i have received a call from them and let them handle my antivirus issue. They have solved the problem. Have I been scammed? They have not taken money as yet and said I am on trial period. |

Cancel that credit card and get a new one, watch for carryover charges and alert your bank to any from this company (or others you know you didn't make, the scammers often share card data) as FRAUD. |

Did you give them your credit card number or download something from a site they told you to go to?
Because if you downloaded something they recommended, it was most likely rogue security software. And if you gave them your credit card number, they'll start charging you for services you don't need, or commit outright fraud. Either way, you've most likely been scammed and had better cancel that card.
Assuming of course that you are not a shill for the company.

Well, no. I did not give my credit card no. I said I don't have one. BTW I'm no shill or whatever...as i said they told me "I was on trial period". Now I don't know what that means but I got the antivirus fixed.
So till now it is not a horror movie for me. |

You probably didn't need to give them any financial info....it was more than likely already on the computer that you would have had to give them access to. |

Now, that is intimidating. Though I do not have important info lying here and there but its just that I watched them work on my comp.
So I know exactly where they went. I just saw them cleaning the registry and then uninstall the existing antivirus and replace it with a new McAfee. |
