Re: ported out after 4 years

No need to unless you had it replaced recently.

I'm assuming the same would apply to my ata 186 too? I'm think of porting out and I was wondering if I could re-use my 186. Will Vonage still unlock them?

Did they ever terminate your service or did they keep billing you? I ported mine a couple weeks ago and sure enough they billed me for another month today, and the useless Indian e-mail support people are clueless, apologizing for their "helplessness" in not being able to tell me anything or do anything for me.

I live just a few miles away from Vonage's big world HQ in Holmdel, NJ. And my business is based nearby also.

I always wonder why I never meet anyone who works for Vonage.

Apparently they must have a tiny staff in that big building, and they outsource all the other work to India.

Dang, I'd dispute that charge. I have to say that I got my "account terminated" email from them the day my port out went through. I'll be watching for a charge on the 15th, though, just in case they "forget."

Yeah, I will dispute it. They said their records show that number is still active with them, which is nonsense. They are a phone company, just call the number and see where it goes. Jeez.

Their record-keeping errors are a problem, but they aren't my problem. Their terms of service (section 6.6) clearly say they will terminate service when the number port is successful. So they can have fun trying to argue against my charge-back

The easiest way to avoid recurring charges after cancellation is one billing cycle prior to your cancellation, change your payment option to CC and use one those greendot or the like prepaid Visas/MC cards and put just enough to complete your last payment. Then when they try to charge against it after cancellation, it will not process.

If Vonage still works like when I worked there (its been 3 years), your account is NOT cancelled when your number is ported out. You need to call them to cancel your account.

I have to agree. I worked there (Edison then opened up Holmdel) for a little over a year and you can be sure they're gonna screw you somehow.

Re: ported out after 4 years

I don't know, maybe it varies but when I ported my number out I was automatically canceled out. No more charges on the Visa once I got the "Sorry to see you go" email.
