Re: Upstream Power Question

ISP is Armstrong Cable, a well respected mid-sized company around here. I'm going to have some set-up pictures hopefully soon when I make my next review. Took over our township last year and built a new cable system and did it with fiber right to the premise. Apparantly I've been told fiber is actually cheaper than coax and our old system was so broken down that it just needed replaced.

I'll check on the splitter. I've read that installing an amp on the modem run probably won't help either.

I'n not having any problems but would like to try and address the issue before I do, it was 47 when I first got service. The weather got warmer recently, but I didn't think fiber would be too sensitive to that.

ANother thing you'll notice is that as the weather warms up the upstream power will increase. I had this problem like a couple years ago in the summer time in the heat i would lose connection. Then in the evening my connection would come back. They eventually found a bad amp in the return path. My connection is good now.

Wow i didn't know they have ftth cable connections anywhere yet. That is cool.

Oh sorry when i wrote my post i forgot it's probably different if it's fiber. So i don't know if that would appy to your situation or not. Either way good luck. At least now you don't have to deal with those dreaded thunderstorm outages from miles away.

! I hope not anyway, only had one good thunderstorm since it was installed and (knock on wood) not one error message in the log as a result. Fiber is suppose to be far less sensitive to interference, so we shall see.

As soon as I get some time hopefully next week, I'll wip out the ol' camera and take some pictures of the FTTH set-up and review my service again.
