You may want to get use to blood or frost tanking, when the new patch comes out there will be no more unholy blight for aoe aggro. |

| reply to Graytooth13 i'm trying around a bit with different tank specs.
what i tried so far: blood is fine with dps and boss tanking but AoE aggro really sucks frost is great with mitigation but my damage is lame and i do not find a proper rotation that i get used to (blood tank 2,5k dps / frost 1.8k dps) tried tyreals rotation but can't get used to it. unholy is really nice for AoE but i hate playing with pets (ghul).
is there any good unholy tank spec without a ghul? do you have any suggestions for a good balanced AoE/boss unholy tanking spec without a ghul?
thanks |

| reply to kuhbus I sure can bud. The spec is as follows
12/51/8 »wowdata.getbuffed.com/talentplan···0;59309;
Glyph of Obliterate I use for single target threat. You could change it for the Icy touch Glyph. Glyph of pesitilience helps with aoe threat.
Frost provides some nice survivabilty and snap agro in the form of Howling Blast. DnD + Diseases + Pest + HB = THREATCOMINGOUTMYARSE
You can look up my dk (Tirael-Feathermoon-US) I think he is in his dps spec but he has dual spec so meh.
Single target rotation DnD-PT-IT-BS-BS-OB-FS-FS and howling blast when ever you see the buff "Freezing Fog" (= free Howling Blast)
Aoe rotation DnD-PT-IT-Pest-Blood Tap-HB Pest-HB-DnD

1 edit | reply to Graytooth13 boss thread is not my problem! always been far ahead in omen! it's DDs that can't wait to give the trash groups their maximum AoE damage ... and i resigned telling PuG DDs to wait even 2-3 sec with damage! so i need fast AoE aggro thats why i choose unholy as tank skill. if there are better alternatives i'm open redoing my skills. (its ways easier to find PuGs as DK tank than DK DD)
tirael could you pls post your frost tank spec? is it suitable for aoe-tanking too? |

| reply to kuhbus Blood tap is a skill. I am not sure at what level you get it (i should though lol, its been 8 months since my dk hit 80). IMHO, I wouldn't use unholy to tank at 80. Blood or Frost are much better. If unholy fits your play style better I am all for it, however, Frost offers way more snap agro (which saves lives..see Kologorn 25) and mitigation, while blood offers a lot of survivabilty through self healing and single target threat. -- "Conan, what is best in life?"

| reply to Graytooth13 i'm dual spec and skilled unholy for tanking (lvl 74) how do you deal with the first few seconds to get enough initial aggro on the off-targets? first is DnD, then all diseases on skull and spread them with pestilence. then a rotation of the standard-attacks on skull.
after i set DnD the DD start off attacking the skull or using Aoe and then i get in real trouble getting the mobs back ... any hints? did i miss something? |

| reply to irefusetodie Some thoughts...
You need to pick up 3/3 Reaping so your blood ruins turn into death ruins to keep the mitigation talent up.
Necrosis is important for threat.
Magic Suppression is a great "oh sh!t" button when you're getting hammered by casters, as is anti-Magic zone.
Ghoul Frenzy is a useless talent as a tanking.
Rage of Rivendare is important damage (+10%) and expertise.
Just some thoughts... |

| reply to Krisnatharok My specc hasn't changed, IMO this is the best dk tank spec »www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xm···13101100 After the first minute its almost impossible to lose aggro, unless it's the Ot, so being able to pop a 7k heal every 30secs without the possibility of loosing aggro is nice, and i have the ghoul for the "Oh Sh$%" moments, sometimes your ghoul isn't summoned in time for death pact so I've got him up 100% |

| reply to NICK79 It's generally accepted that Bladed Armor is better than 2H specialization. That's all I can add off the top of my head--it depends how your unholy points are spent. IMO 57 is going to be too many.
I know you can't see it at home, but 10/7/54 is going to serve you better in the long run, IMO.

| reply to deathtank Re: [ Classes] DK best TANK spec
I checked your build before I left for work and it's almost exactly what I have. I only pug heroics and still do questing/gathering and don't have artisan flying yet, so I have two points in Pale Horse.
DK tanking spec's are a no-brainer. What makes or breaks it is your gear. Def-cap is non-negotiable, HP to buffer through damage spikes, and avoidance to avoid damage completely are all important stats. |

  Krisnatharok 0311 Scout Premium join:2009-02-11 Sterling, VA | reply to irefusetodie Agreed. SSG is generally accepted a "newbie" rune for tanks trying to get to 540 def. Once you get substantially over that (would have to be 565, or 555 with the sigil), drop it, eat the 2% loss in stamina, and go for Sword-shattering. |

  irefusetodie
@charter.com | reply to Irefusetodie forgot to add, all of the runes are NOT affected by dimishing return. that means it's a straight +4% parry like blade barrier is +10% pre-3.1 |

@charter.com
| reply to Graytooth13 Also, i just wanted to throw this out there, Stoneskin should not be used once you hit t7.5 gear. Heres why: Stoneskin= +25 def & 2% HP Swordshattering= +4% parry
That means that the 25 defense skill from SG provides a straight 3% avoidance (1% miss, 1% dodge, 1% parry) and SS 4% (straight-up 4% parry).BUT if you're crit immune without SG that means you would have the 3% avoidance anyways, meaning SS technically adds 4% avoidance. That being said, SG is very very usefull in gearing up to the point you dont need it anymore and, if you could, you could have SG and possibly get more than 4% avoidance before diminishing return(though i doubt it) One key concept to understand in this debate is that of diminishing returns. Diminishing returns on avoidance stats, new to WoTLK, is a method of making a certain attribute less useful the more you have of it.
For example, lets pretend that 100 dodge rating increased your dodge chance by 1%. For your first 100 rating, youd have a 1% dodge chance. But because of diminishing returns, the next 100 rating might only give 0.95% dodge chance. The third 100 rating might give 0.90% dodge chance, and so on. This is an oversimplification of the topic, but it gets the point acrossif youre interested in more, check out this thread at TankSpot. »www.tankspot.com/forums/f63/4000···nce.html |
