PON seems to be the preferred FTTP technology for most roll outs rather then switched Ethernet.

| My company deploys Ethernet via fibre media adapters very heavily... Usable reach is about 20km for the products we use. Services from 2-100 meg, generally.
It works well, although they are "dumb" devices, so troubleshooting is sometime labour intensive.

| I see lots of Conoga Perkins 9119 units deployed; although my company doesn't use them. We use Nebula VFast units, ourselves. Google on both will turn up the specs and details. For Multimode, or when more intelligence is required on the link, we use RAD ETX chassis, with appropriate SFP's. | |
