Re: Switching

lol. very true. yah they've been saying that. It was a story on here as far as slowing down but ATT really hasnt said anything officially as far as i can find. But their service here is much more than what you'd pay with cable. U-Verse doesn't have a very high take rate compared to what cable is in many areas. Especially if you don't want digital cable and only pay $50 per month for your 75 channels (like me) and just pay for Internet of 12/1 and pay a total of $120 per month. (internet is 69.99 per month). ATT wants $69 for ~200 channels. Many of their "channels are account questions and help channels--they also count music as being a TV channel. then add the now $7 PER BOX after your first one. and then add at base rate $25 for 1.5/1meg internet. To get anywhere close to what I have now just to watch the same TV channels id be paying up words $140 per month before taxes just in TV and Internet.

That's just to get Discovery Health and some other channels Buckeye Cable puts on analog cable.

U-verse TV is not a good choice for people who are happy just splitting some analog channels directly to their TVs, especially if there's several TVs.

The U-verse price includes a 4 tuner DVR, and $7 per month for additional TVs that an acccess the DVR. When you get into multiple DVRs many cable companies really stick it to you in fees. Time Warner here charges quite a bit for even the first DVR and over $20 per month for a second one.

You can also get good deals out of AT&T if you work at it. I was paying $99 per month for 6 months for Max 10/1 internet plus U300, after getting a $200 rebate check. So for my first 6 months that worked out to $66 per month for nearly the best service they had to offer, with no commitment. To get the deal all I did was politely ask if there was anyting they could do to lower the bill, and they came back with $50 per month in discounts.

That probably depends on service in your local area.

I've used practically all the carriers here in SoCal.

- T-Mobile - VERY good GSM service, coverage could be better
- Sprint - Good CDMA coverage, poor CS
- Nextel iDEN - Reliable as a brick... works like it as well
- VZW - I haven't used in years due to billing issues. Great reliability, and works well if you like a walled garden
- AT&T - great coverage on GSM, very reliable. 3G network was not reliable until last Xmas (no 3G 850... not enough capacity deployed).

Re: Switching

For me, its bottom line, and Uverse (+ Call Vantage in your case) pretty much matches what I pay to TWC:

Your effective $66/month + $25 for CV
Is about the same as my $89 for TV/HSI/VoIP ($99 with taxes).

the deals ATT wants to offer are the same ones that they offer everyone online and by mail. if they can't do anything better then they need to give up and pack up.

They may give the DVRs to customers for $7 per month but that doesnt stop them from raising the rates for a 3rd time yet this year here. They raised the rates when they first offered TV in my neighborhood, 3 weeks later they raised them again...and then again sometime within the last few weeks they did it again to the $7 PER BOX!

Plus on your DSL you have overhead due to the PPPOE i don't have that with cable. I always hit my 11.9+ for download and 998k upload

And the $200 rebate check they can keep that. I don't fall for their rebates. yah your no commitment means they raise their rates when they want and when they please. My cable provider hasn't raised rates in YEARS, yes read YEARS. the last known cable rate in my town was at least 5+ years ago. And they still keep offering more channels and faster internet. Did i mention my local cable company doesn't wholesale my data and phone records to the NSA.

and the keyword is "lower YOUR BILL" i don't have anything with them and don't care to at this point. My roommate pays $15 per month for our alarm line -- metered billing on it--free incoming calls. and the $15 includes taxes and ATT's bullshit "fees".

But like i said before---if ATT can't compete with what i have instead of using lame lies like "if you don't switch to U-Verse by Feb 17th, your cable service won't work because it's not all digital like ours" well Feb. 17th has come and gone and my TV works like it did back when i signed up in August.

U-Verse has no PPPoE, no ATM, so that argument is out the window. Obviously you don't know enough about U-Verse to be making comparisons.

Yet profiles are still 'interleaved' vs fastpath.

I think rebates do count.

The way I do it is figure out what size service window I'm looking at.. 1 year 2 years.. add up the complete cost for that period of time (including rebates, equipment fees, and taxes) and divide by the number of months. To me, that's my true monthly payment.

When you're talking rebates, shorter time frames obviously equate to lower monthly payments. If you have to purchase equipment longer service commitments tend to be cheaper.

I typically shop my service every 1.5 - 2 years. With a central wiring closet, switching service providers is really a 30 min process. I have my own external mail servers and I use OpenDNS.

how do you figure they don't require PPPOE Their Modems still require you to login using the same technology as their aDSL. That is PPPOE.

Their 1 rebate would only pay for 1 full month of service. That doesn't count when I'd end up paying $40+ extra per month for the same services.

Especially when you go to the ATT website and do a speedtest and it claims i get almost 5megs less download than what I pay for and claim its true? But when i do a speedtest everywhere else its always the correct speed that I pay for.

ATT full of shit and the rebates only make it look good, which its not.
