 | I have the 7500 and have no issues with Xbox live everything works great. I did not have to do athing just connect the 360 wirelessly to the 7500 and I was off and running. |

 | reply to jim p 1122 I tried to get mine up and running with the Westell 7500. I got sorta distracted by my poor DSL connection, but had two issues with it. First off, I have my Firewall settings set to medium. With the XB360 sitting on the wired LAN behind the 7500, the XB360 complained that the MTU was less than 1500, even though the 7500 indicates that the LAN is at 1500. Then, when I set it into a DMZ config, the XB360 the system -IN- the DMZ, the XB360 couldn't lookup any hosts.
I haven't tried fixing this yet but might soon, since my connection has stabilized.

| reply to ExSanguin8or6 If you're running PPPoE, your WAN side MTU is 1492. Your LAN side MTU can be either 1492 or 1500. I'm running with a LAN at an MTU of 1500, and with a WAN side of 1492 (PPPoE), so see if there is any way in the 360 you can, once putting it in the DMZ, can set up a manual LAN connection. |

 | Whew.
Okay. Back to this.
With my DSL connection now pretty much rock solid at 3M, I went back to my XB360 and poked at it.
It works now, oddly enough.
I have it set to obtain its IP automatically as well as its DNS settings. It is connected to an "internal" router, in-fact my wireless router, just on one of the wired ports. This router is connected to the Westell 7500. This internal router has DNS settings left over from my earlier days with Earthlink, so the two IPs it hands out are NOT supplied by Verizon. The XB360 picks up these old Earthlink DNS IPs when it gets its DHCP lease.
My 7500 is setup with to use a Medium firewall config and I have added in the Xbox Live exception, set to dynamically forward the ports (i.e., its not set to forward unsolicited traffic).
With this set, my XB360 can see the outside world.
So, the MTU thing... Dunno. I didn't change anything WRT to MTU settings at all but it all now works. It was probably a detrimental side effect of the poor DSL connection that I had before I was set down to 3M. |

can anyone tell me if the westell 7500 supports xbox live I just received the Westell 7500 and was able to obtain open NAT for XBL with my 360. You need to go to Port Forwarding and create a service/rule. Then add Services from the dropdown on the left side of the screen. You will see a lot of services and games. Scroll down and you fill find Xbox Live. Select it and it will select the correct ports for you (they have it already configured). Then at that bottom of the screen it will ask you for which device. If your Xbox is turned off, you will see the IP address of your PC. You need to select the IP address of the Xbox in this case in the selection to the right of that. You wlll find the IP addres of the Xbox by navigating to the Systems/Connection section of your Xbox 360. This way those ports that it forwards will be linked to your Xbox. Click Apply and it will save the new rule. Without it I had a Moderate NAT. With Port Fowarding, I have an Open NAT when I "Test" connections for my Xbox.
This saves you the time to create a rule to open each port. You need Ports 3074 UDP/TCP, 88 UDP/TCP.
I also noticed that if you set the Firewall in the router higher than NONE, even LOW, Xbox won't connect. Forget about using Custom as this modem is designed for Network Experts not your typical end-user.
Trying to set QoS (Quality of Service settings) which gamers like/need to do in order to maximize their connectivity is another challenge. If you can connect to XBL, don't get knocked out and manage to have Open NAT, then you should be happy! |
