1 edit | Videotron is against crooks - oh my!!
And why shouldn't Videotron/Quebecor be against those who steal its products? Only populists who think companies should all be charitable organizations giving away its products at cost think otherwise. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page |

| Because they shouldn't be allowed to use their market power (in a relatively non-competitive market) as an internet provider to pursue the goals of other arms of the company. IMO they should be forced to divest.
And yet again, copyright infringement is copyright infringement, not stealing. You can feel it's as bad, you can feel it's worse, you can feel it's a lot like stealing, but you don't get to reinvent the language to suit your rhetorical ends. |

| reply to TKJunkMail said by TKJunkMail :And why shouldn't Videotron/Quebecor be against those who steal its products? First of all, it's not stealing. It's copyright infringement. Secondly, in Canada it's legal to download. So even if it was "stealing" it's only the people handing the items out who are breaking the law, the people receiving the items are not breaking the law. Thirdly, there are already many paths the copyright owners can take to charge those who violate their copyright. The only thing these proposed Three Strikes Laws will do is give them the power to ban people from the internet without any legal oversight. Here's a hint TK, if someone didnt like your posts, they would be able to file fake DMCA/other copyright complaints, and after three or four you would have your internet taken away. No judge, no jury, no nothing. |

If Time Warner (who is on a tear recently concerning its music products) started monitoring customers lines looking for people accessing its own music, and started applying a 3-strikes policy against it, then customers would feel obligated to get permission for fair uses just to keep their Internet access. That's not right.
I'm against "stealing," too, but a lot of harm to freedom can be done in the name of "crime prevention." -- Robb Topolski -= funchords.com =- Hillsboro, Oregon -- KJ7RL ... Do something! ... |
