[VoiceStick] Next to Nothing now costs $3

Just got the following in an email from Voicestick:

We are also updating the Next 2 Nothing accounts to include a monthly account preservation charge of $2.99 on all accounts that do not use a minimum of $50 in calling
Looks like I'll be dropping my account there, even though they were the only ones that could provide me with a DID in my rate center.

Hmm ... I hope they don't mess with the (unadvertised) Asterisk Two plan. That is $2.99 / month and includes 250 incoming or outgoing minutes; 1.2cpm thereafter.

$50 in what timeframe? Per month? Per year?

I can't imagine they'd expect you to use $50 per month.

I read it to be $50 per month.

For all accounts that use $50 or more in calling we will remove the account preservation charge for the following month.

Hello!
We are excited to announce the upgrade of our switching technology and billing systems. Upgrading our infrastructure will provide you with higher call quality, better connectivity and more options than before. We think the changes will better help us serve your calling needs. Additionally, we value you as a Next 2 Nothing customer and want to ask you to help us enroll new VoiceStick users.

To encourage you to invite your friends and family to begin using VoiceStick, we have implemented an incentive program. When someone you invite joins the VoiceStick Family please ask them to forward their welcome email to "cc.support@helpdesk.i2telecom.com" with your VoiceStick number as the title. When we receive the email we will give you $10 of free calling credit.

We are also updating the Next 2 Nothing accounts to include a monthly account preservation charge of $2.99 on all accounts that do not use a minimum of $50 in calling. For all accounts that use $50 or more in calling we will remove the account preservation charge for the following month. The account preservation charge will be implemented starting March 1, 2009. We continue to strive to keep our calling charges as low as possible and trust that you will both understand and appreciate our efforts.

If you have questions or need help with any of your accounts please let us know and we will be happy to help. We also invite you to keep an eye on the VoiceStick.com website for our new features and the my account page for special offers.

Thank you for choosing VoiceStick!

That's the email I got above. At least the money they will be taking, is the same money Bruce put in my account.... since I never use it.

They have a free did, and I think free incoming calls.

Their outgoing rates are quite low.

The 2.99 is something they feel they need to charge and I can't blame them, given the low rates.

Their switch is crappy - can't use it with a normal softphone, can't use it with voxalot, can't use it to forward to a sip url.

If they would fix that, I might start using them again; as it is, they can have the 2.99/month until my account goes to zero.

Damn, this really sucks. I might use 10.00 in two or three months. Any other alternatives out there?

The free DID is now $2.99.
I think they charge for inbound on the N2N plan.
Email states they upgraded their switch.....

Incoming calls on N2N are 1.18 cents/minute.

Is that plan still available? I might switch to that instead. Makes sense...

You know, we've never actually had a port from VS before (yet). I don't see why we couldn't though. IM me the number and I'll check.

Wow.

Very few residential users will use $ 50 in calls a month.

So basically, it is a rate increase of $ 3 a month.

Not huge, but folks can do better.

This company have a suicide wish, or what?!

I haven't received the email yet, but 10 days notice of a significant account change is very generous for Voicestick. Is this notice now in compliance with their terms? I guess they got tired of only having free use of my funds. I wonder if they would refund my balance?

Wow.... just... wow. History repeats itself, when Bruce is gone VS goes downhill bigtime.

If they are also charging this on the outbound only PAYG accounts that have a "phone number" of 13331231xxx then that is also absolutely ridiculous. I have one such account with about $9 in credit, and if this is true I guess that will all be gone in 3 months.

I'm not putting another penny in that account, I will ride out the rest of my time there with the remaining money that Bruce added. Just before the $$ runs dry, I will port out to the NerdVittles/Vitelity promo for inbound and F9 for outbound.

I was thinking the same thing. It's almost funny.. management makes insane decisions, suffer the wrath of customers leaving, brings Bruce in. Bruce reverses said decisions, brings customers back in, then they fire him. Happened twice before. Are we in for a third?
