Hi All,
Tried to go through a firmware update today and i had no success using the automatic update so downloaded manually and tried that.
The status bar filled to 100% but the screen just stuck there. i left it for a good 20 mins but still froze. I then rebooted the router to find its locked up with a green flashing power indicator and a constand orange test light.
I now suspect my router is killed. I have tried the factory reset button but that does not seem to work.
does anyone have any advice on how to fix this?
Thank You |

| I just did the EXACT same thing.
What a piece of shit this Netgear is.
I have been having some connectivity issues with a game lately and isolated the issue to the router as the game plays great when the cat5 is hooked directly into the modem.
Tried both the firmware upgrades you also tried except let the firmware attempt to upgrade for an hour to no joy.
Did you find a fix or did you do what I plan on tomorrow? Purchase a Linksys? |

| I never found a fix for this, a BIG word of warning. i went and bought a Linksys WRT160N V2 and its an even bigger pile of shit. Constant drop outs etc.
To anyone looking for a new router, do your homework before you buy. I ran out and went to my nearest PC world store and seen the Linksys on a shelf. What a massive mistake. Linksys believe it or not are not as good as people make out. |

1 edit | I thought my WGR 614 was bad.
A neighbor asked me to help him set up a new Linksys WRT150N. Prior to this, he was using 802.11b and was looking forward to the speed boost. Well, I grabbed my Belkin USB 802.11n PCI adapter and headed to his place.
I helped him set it up, and was back there within several hours! The the router's dhcpd would decide to release/renew all ips for no apparent reason. My Belkin PCI card, which is well tested had trouble connecting at 802.11n and often stepped down to 802.11g ...
The guy got sick of his gaming and Skype being interrupted every time the router randomly decides to release/renew AlL ips and returned it.
I will swear by only one consumer router, and that's the Cisco 871w.
