Re: Using DIR-615 C1/3.01 with Trendnet TEW-652BRP in N Mode

Hi,

Just a thought or rather, a suggestion:

1) Goto »www.atheros.cz to get AR-5008X series driver for DIR-615 Rev. C

2) hex edit it, if necessary, so that you can flash the modified driver into Trendnet TEW-652BRP router

3) Flash the modified driver into TEW-652BRP.

Let me know how this works out for you. Good luck!

Those drivers are for wireless adapters how are you using them to work with DIR-615. Again I don't have any wireless adapters using those chip sets well not yet. Until it gets here.

OK, here's the site I found for DIR-615 Rev.C/3.01 router:

»ftp://lizzi555.dyndns.org/Download/WLA···firmware

Select DIR615C1C2_FW301.BIN

Size: 3777 KB date: 28/10/08

The site is in German but hitting Download will get to English pages. Also, this site usually offers better (Atheros) drivers/firmwares than stock DLink's.

Don't work! Did the re-flash to again but can't get a lock on the device DC301. So back the Trendnet I got.. With every re-flash new stuff seem to work now. 652BRP runs hotter with that firmware you wanted me to re-flash too. Better off with the Trendnet for now..

Well I thought I had lost this one! No WLAN no wireless but kept at it and save the little wireless N router. Okay no more firmwares unless it's from Trendnet..

Hi,

What's happening with your DIR-655 router? Any plan to try Atheros firmware from the lizzi555 ftp site for it?

Re: Using 1.10.08 with Trendnet TEW-652BRP in N Mode

Okay everything is fixed..It was the DIR-655 causing the issues. After one day everything working. Even in the weaker areas I get 120mbps in the strong area 150mbps. I am going to use the DIR-655 as another N wireless access point on second/attic floors.

Hi,

Could you be more specific? What in DIR-655 caused the problems? What problems? Which firmware you used to fix them?

Thanks!

I don't know yet as I haven't taken it out to run some lab test on it. I have another wireless router in place using it with he latest DD-WRT v24 SP2. I with the firmware I can change the onboard switch ports from Auto to Full Duplex, Connected Connections are 330 more than the DIR-655 200. No lag or wait time. Anyway I'll let you all know how it goes with the DIR-655.

Trendnet TEW-652BRP in N Mode

Going to put this back online for wireless N on 1 wireless N laptop I use instead of the other 2 wireless N. The above image is clear to see how I had installed the heat sink on the WNPU.

Remodded the case blocking vents to non-blocking

I've taken this router apart again shown above. Boy the gorilla glue is strong can't put that apart again. The heat sink fins are hot and the bottom of the board is hot. But why is the heat still not escaping and hanging around. Okay closer look to find that the side ports holes are block by plastic vent fin covers.

Using a screwdriver shown in image no.#1 you can see how I had pulled down on the plastic vent fins.
Wiggle them back and forth motion until the pop off.
The one in the rear very careful and do it slowly. I didn't damage mine case but it could happen so be warn.

I use high speed DREMEL to smooth out the rough plastic inside. Now the hot heat can escape instead of just staying in the case and building up in the router causing heat issues. I see after I had taken apart the DIR-655 it's plastic vents are non-blocking as the TEW-652BRP were blocked with just a slit of an air opening on each side. Doesn't make much sense to me to build the case this way.

Now with the heat sink on the WNPU and the side vents are not blocked it should be cooler now. Also flip the case over since the holes and the button should be on top but they're not so flip the router over so who cares what it looks like.

Using a huge aluminum heat sink on the bottom from Nivida GPU

The heat sink is working it's hot the problem I am face with is that the heat has left the top cover and gone down to the bottom. Now, I have some old Nivida cards with huge aluminum heat sinks on the GPU that is now on the bottom area where the vents are.

Shown here is where it would be positioned. I did run a test with gluing it on. The heat dissipated so good!

Well I did all of this to see if it could work. I know it's a bit extreme but I am not out of pocket as everything here was available already from dead video cards and switches.

Re: Using a huge aluminum heat sink on the bottom from Nivida GP

Hi,

You could also place a small CPU cooler to extract excess heat out of the bottom cover, though you may need to cut a hole that's smaller than the base of the cooler!

Way to much work to keep this cheap router going.. I only had it a month and way to much to go through. I had picked another N router today with high power 3x built-in ANT! It supports DD-WRT I'll use that as my wireless N access.

It's shame about TEW-652BRP heating problems, but I needs something stable to use under N.

Hi,

Would you care to let us know the name and model number of the new N router that will run on DD-WRT firmware?

Thanks!

DD-WRT Wireless N Router/Access Point on the Cheap to Mid Price

Right out of the new box it was up and running. After turning off the DHCP Server I had Wireless N Access Point and none of that crap everyone is having with DIR-655 (bad beta firmware) and TEW-652BRP (overheating)Well it's not a DLINK nor a Trendnet. Prices are $34.99 to $69.99. Online it's cheaper. In the store they have a stock pile of them. What is them go here: »www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.···&start=0

I'll be applying DD-WRT v24 SP2 soon, I wanted to see how the stock firmware was. Very stable. There none of that B only G only N only mix only just the rated top speed for performance which would be N at 40Hz. Of course if you need B/G you just downgrade the speed. I am just glad it works. I can't wait to flash it with DD-WRT then everything here would be DD-WRT Network Wired 100, Wired 1000, Wireless G and Wireless N for the last part of the puzzle.

Re: DD-WRT Wireless N Router/Access Point on the Cheap to Mid Pr

Hi,

Have you flashed the latest DD-WRT firmware on your new toy, Netgear WNR834B V. 2?

I would also like to know if wireless adapters from DLink, TP Link, Linksys, Broadcom and Trendnet can pick up its signal clearly and consistently.

OOCC I didn't post what I got since technically speaking we're n a DLINK forum.

To answer your question I had just finished using the latest build to flash the unit. The WRN834Bv2 firmware GUI is busy and limited. DD-WRT v24 SP2 like with the buffalo router I using as the main router both wired overclock the broadcom NPU to 233MHz and get 330 connections and AP0 along with AP1 twin using DD-WRT also. Never good be better. Clocked in BT at 3.31mb/s for DWL, faster than DIR-655 could have been is only max out of 200 connections.

Trendnet TEW-641PC works great as it should with it's 2RT2.

I only have TP-LINK gig, Encore Gig, Buffalo gear, linksys products I don't you any more.. DLINK DIR-655 is my NAS_60, 3 HP Color with one HP MFP (color scanner/printer/copier) on a Gig port really quick to print/copy/scan and you can scan images from any networked wired or wireless system Server.

Right not that's all that expensive xtreme router can do for me no DHCP/ No wireless. Really don't need a Gig router unless you have to move larger files but I use the Trendnet 8-port Gig metal switch with 144KB clone of the DLINK top end 8-port switch has V-NPU stuff. Move, copy and transfer huge files to and from to each other.

Now Wi-viz nice wireless mapping tool built-into DD-WRT firmware.

Well I'll see where the WRN834Bv2 takes me..
