Well three wireless N laptops had problems keeping a connection. Both lost the connection and there wasn't anything that could be done to recover the connection. The router reported problems. Only the wireless g laptop had stayed connection. Oh well so I had to quickly had pulled the plug out of the TEW-652BRP for now. Turned back on the DIR-655 wireless G/N mix mode set the channel to auto and set the 20/40Hz to auto. So far that's working for now that's the only device providing wireless connection in the house and turned off my Buffalo High Power Turbo G.
On more note the only way this will work is you set everything to 20Hz but that reduces the speed of N to near G quality on the TEW. It's shame.. |

Well back with this until I can figure out what's wrong with the DIR-655 up and down wireless link problem. Started today. I only notice it when I turned back on the wireless. If the trendnet would work I could have to use. Well... |

I suspect that Trendnet TEW-652BRP router can't keep connection because it's getting hot. I remember that both DLink router models DI-524 and DI-624 suffered heat problem and kept rebooting until I kept them upright. I even glued some RAM heatsinks onto the radio chip inside DI-524. My DI-624 is now relatively stable.
On another matter, when you use both wireless N and wireless G routers, do you use separate SSIDs and separate channels but keep the same passphrase, or what? |

2 edits | Well when I first testing G with DIR-655 that was set to the same SSID I use in WHR-HP-G54 with DD-WRT works great no problems. Now since N was introduce with 1 then 2 more. Things changed.
Main router has it own SSID Wireless Access points have their own SSID So in other words yes along with there own channels. With G you can get away using the same channel. But with N you can't.
So you think the 652BRP is getting hot, I know it did using DIR-615 C1/1.01 firmware. But using 1.10.08 and 1.0.08 it doesn't. I just updated back to 1.10.08 without any mods. On the one N working but on another one it can't see the network places shares I have a tweak for that problem but I shouldn't have to use it though.
I was able to compare download youtube videos and watching a youtube video at the sametime. With G was okay but with N using 652BRP was smoother.
I don't know if you use Firefox but some videos on Youtube lag but I see there is a fix for that problem. That worked! |

Sure enough this was so hot touch and to open. Okay I've installed old heat sink from one of my older DLINK switches I don't use anymore fits perfect here.

Found in side was:
Atheros 9130 400Mhz NPU (Network Processing Unit)
Pointec PT461616HG for RAM
I'll let this dry and test it out later on today.. |

No overheating not even warm.. I am able to open Outlook 2007 and Thumderbird without issues. More testing before I go 100%. |

Hi,
I opened my Trendnet TEW-632BRP N-Home Router today. Found 2 Atheros chips. The one where you put on the heatsink shows AR-9130 so it must be the CPU. A much smaller chip to the upper left corner has very tiny marking so I cannot read what it is but I guess it's the radio chip. The long silver rectangular piece of metal with lots of holes just below the heatsink in your pic must be the heatsink or heat exchanger for the whole router. The bottom face of the router above the circuitboard has vent holes. I found it's slightly warm to touch. For now I may not need to add any RAM heatsink as long as I keep the router standing up and the vent holes unblocked. The narrow sides of the router's plastic case might need holes drilled to vent off any excess heat, if it ever becomes necessary. |

I am running Trendnet router TEW-632BRP as "modded" with DLink DIR-615 Rev. C1 firmware on a trial basis. No rebooting so far.

3 edits | That's good I've place mine back up near the ceiling. I am using Odyssey Access Client Manager/Security Client to control the wireless network PCMICA card instead of the Trendnet Wireless N Client Utility. That one seems buggy to me it has a hard time reconnecting and opens up under programs ran. Odyssey reads that my signal is Signal Strong -53dB on my main wireless laptop.
As for TEW-652BRP the only reason why I installed a heat sink was it was freezing and it was too hot to touch. Most of the heat is coming from the bottom of the unit. A USB Laptop cooling fan can take care of that. Right now its working better with heat sink.
Your model is different than mine. NPU and WNPU are the same but the RAM brand is different. |

| Hi,
1) I use Atheros Client Utility that comes with the Atheros driver for my DLink WNA-2330 PCMCIA adapter and the utility itself uses Odyssey. Check out www.atheros.cz for good Atheros drivers.
2) It's good to hear your Trendnet TEW-652BRP router is finally working well.

| You are welcome. Let us know how your "fix" works as well as any procedure so that all members can benefit. I know AR-5008X series drivers in www.atheros.cz works for DLink DIR-625, 655,etc., Netgear, TPLink and Trendnet TEW-633GR. Should also works with TEW-632BRP and TEW-652BRP.

| Wow! Cool!
1) Could you show us how to get to the TCP enhancements and network tweaks 2009?
2) Which Atheros driver & version number did you use in order to have Odyssey Access Client Manager for Trendnet TEW-641 PCMCIA wireless adapter card?
3) Can you repeat the experiment using Trendnet TEW-652BRP with modified firmware from DLink DIR-615 Rev.C1?
Look forward to hearing from you soon. Keep up the good work!

4 edits | Well won't be doing the DIR-615 C1/3.01 firmware flip again. Just to much headaches with that one, plus the firmware seems buggy even for the DIR-615 firmware.
TCP Enhancements »www.windowsreference.com/windows···s-limit/ Follow the link to the patcher this is for SP3 though. SP2 uses a files to replace 3 files. This seems faster with the patcher version for SP3.
Network Tweaks 2009 (Tipstir_nic_tweaks2009.exe) this one is by me.. »hosted.filefront.com/tipstir/
I don't have Atheros driver as yet that's on order. Trendnet TEW-641PC uses Realtek RTL8190 chipset rated 144mbps on non-N to 300mbps on N. |

1 edit | reply to tipstir DIR-655 pulled for checking..
Wow! Now it looks like the DIR-655 was lagging and I didn't even know until bringing it down today and putting up the DD-WRT v24 sp2 firmware wireless router in place until I can figure out what's going on with the DIR-655. With that firmware I am able to have the switch ports on the router set to full duplex instead of Auto Sense. I tested out P2P, Gig transfers between other Gig Rigs, TEW-652BRP was more responsive, everything was.. Speedtest on internet. Still have to do that later. Daytime speeds were about the same prior.
It feels like I just had pull out clog in the drain.. |

I got a problem again.. I going to have to do the 30/30/30 rule on this router. More like 40/40/40 reflash the firmware since there seem to be and issue with the Status Light flashing as I heard that might be the router things it's in the recovery mode causes the CPU to max out!
1. with power on press the reset button for 30 seconds 2. pressing reset button unplug for another 30 seconds 3. keep on pressing reset button plug in the power for 30 seconds then release 4. Now flash the unit
repeat steps 1 thru 3 after you flash the unit |
