Re: Using DIR-615 C1/3.01 with Trendnet TEW-652BRP in N Mode

Hi there,

I can't actually find the 3.11NA firmware on the D-Link site. Anyone have a link at all?

Thanks,

Bart

I upgraded to this firmware and it has broken javascript when using "websites I allow". I'm hoping for a fix, but I'm really starting to hate D-Link...

This was also an issue in 3.10.

It can be a bit hidden.
You have to go to »www.dlink.com/products/default.a···vC&tab=3 and claim that you are from USA, and then you get the download links, select firmware, and you see list.

The newest firmware is: »ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir615_rev···11NA.zip

How can I put this firmware on my TEW-652BRP ? It always says: Fail, system rebooting.

Thank you

You have to change the "hardware ID" at the end of the firmware files so that TEW-652 thinks that the firmware is for itself.

Read e.g. thread at: »www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.···&start=0

I upgraded first to patched D-link 3.01 (which I found there in the thread) and then upgraded normally to 3.11 (as the device thought that is is a D-link box.)

Can someone please repost the files that have been saved on savefile dot com, because the website is dead for like a month and it will still be.
Many thanks.

Brings back good memories. I remember doing this with a D-Link DI-524 years ago to switch to Trendnet firmware. They both used the same OEM and the internal guts were the same between the D-Link and Trendnet. Just had to use a hex editor to edit the end of the firmware file identifying the model, and recalculate the checksum with a program a user here created. Ended up switching to DI-624 firmware to gain 108mbps SuperG and it's been going strong since then.

Do D-Link and Trendnet both still use Global Sun Technology as OEM?

The modified files seem to be available at least from the links provided here:

The "mod" process is rather simple in reality, if you would like to do it yourself. You only need a hex editor, and after downloading the original firmware from D-Link, you just need to set the ID code at the end of the firmware to match your router's current firmware's identity, so that the firmware update code in router config thinks that the firmware is for itself.

Identity codes:
Trendet 652: AP81-AR9130-RT-080609-05
Trendet 632: AP81-AR9130-RT-070614-00

D-link 615: AP81-AR9130-RT-070614-02

thank you for replying.
i have a 652brp router and would like to go for the dlink firmware, and I wanted to be sure that I can go back to the stock trendnet firmware if anything goes wrong.
is there a way to save my current firmware?

I am not sure if there is any backup option in the current firmware. There might be. In any case, you might download the newest Trendnet firmware directly from their homepage, and you could then flash that to the device.

(If you have already flashed Dlink firmware there, then you would have to change the ID in downloaded Trendnet firmware to match the required Dlink code, so that the now "Dlink" router thinks that the firmware is correct.)

Best you stick with the Trendnet firmware for now as basic as it is, once you start messing around with DLINK DIR-615 firmware you have some issue to deal with on the trendnet. Mine works with the firmware from dlink for the C1 right now but there is no turning back to trendnet basic firmware. One other thing is that I would need to build a ice cooler to keep it in so it doesn't overheat those Atheros chips for switch controller, WNPU, NPU and flash are one of the worse processors to use.

I didn't read any reviews before buying and I need port forwarding, that the trendnet original fw doesn't have.
Do I need to begin by flashing to ver 3.01 of the dlink fw and the upgrade to 3.11NA or, I can flash directly to 3.11NA?

Yes you must start with the 3.01 for this router before you can use 3.11NA.
