Re: Missing home page?

They moved the Homepages to different servers a while back, you should have received a couple emails about it.

If you didn't make a choice before they moved the servers, it is gone.

There are two areas you can use, their crap preformated stuff or FTP your own coding.

Yeah, too late now. Oh well. Thanks God for backups. I wanted the FTP one, but it wanted to migrate which ended months ago? Did I go the wrong one?

Okay, apparently the migration period that we weren't aware of ended at the end of November. The migration took place because the web service contract RR had expired. They've since gone to two other web service providers: home.roadrunner.com for people who had prior home pages, and home.rr.com for everyone else. Good of them for not forcing everyone to go to home.rr.com, I guess.

Since like me you had a previous home page with Road Runner, you CAN have them create an account on home.roadrunner.com for you! You do have to escalate it up to level 3 support, though. Luckily you have a back up of your files, so that should make things go easier.

Good thing I tried contacting support again and reached someone who knows this to be the case. Sucks that you have to play Russian Roulette like this, but good luck!

Thanks. I also noticed they have a 500 MB storage server too for all RR users.

Yeah, 50MB if you stay with rr, 25MB if you('re lucky enough to) use roadrunner. I rather have less space but my own HTML files, since web storage is easy to find on the cheap if not outright free. The rr dashboard/template and advertising banners are just tacky, IMO.

Very tacky.

Excuse me, but doesn't anyone else think it is a big deal for RR to delete people's files and change the URL of their web site? What if we have a blog or other site useful to others beyond our immediate friends and family? I don't remember it being made clear when I signed up that they could change my URL or domain name at will. I must have missed the email if RR sent me one (perhas it was addressed to my husband's admin email address), but now my site is gone. I don't want the URL to change, many other pages link to it and it had a high standing in Google. This is totally unacceptable. I told RR they need to redirect automatically, they should have migrated my files and not deleted them even if they didn't hear from me. RR told me it might take a month to restore my files.

home.rr.com requires Flash Player? You have to be kidding. What a pile of garbage.

home.roadrunner.com uses pure coding(with FTP uploads), the space is smaller but you can do with it whatever you want.

I don't know about you, but I was notified months ahead of time and reminded repeatedly about the migration.

I would suggest anyone who needs a site that hasto be primetime, you go to a real webhosting provider. Futhermore, I would never have a site that I didn't author elsewhere and just push updates up to the server. No one should ever put the only copy of important files on someones web server.

The RR site is for sharing baby pictures with grandma.

I think YOU need to READ the thread and the problems people encountered and actual solutions before offering your helpful suggestion.
